Bit Shifter was so kind to provide me with a patched Z3 interpreter, so I can now play @8bitgames Hibernated 1 on my PET! Yes, it is slow as molasses, as it has to CONTINUALLY load from floppy, but it WORKS! It requires BASIC V4, and would profit from some extra RAM, but still! This would have been a hit back in 1977. Or even 1980 for that matter. ;)

richardtroupe,

@root42 @8bitgames I played Hibernated 1 on my 8032 PET and it was nothing short of engrossing on that system.

Mine is a green screen model and just seemed to suit the vibe of the game.

richardtroupe,

@root42 Yes! Although I don't recall loading being that bad as my PET uses an SD card reader.

It's been a long time since I posted something here. But here is Pistorm32 and Pistorm600 native video passtrough. Using a cheap FPGA board, grabbing Amiga native video, converting it to MIPI CSI2 and feed into the camera port of the Raspberry Pi. Showing the native video in a RTG window.

image/png
image/jpeg

richardtroupe,

@ClaudeSchwarz This is amazing! Would this introduce a lot of latency in the native video window?

Would this also negate the need for two monitors?

richardtroupe,

@ClaudeSchwarz Brilliant work! Thank you for continuing on the project... It's been a joy to use my A600 with PiStorm.

I've been thinking a bit this evening and...

I'm going to get rid of a lot of my games. I have far too many and I don't use them.

I will definitely keep the following collections:

  • NES
  • SNES
  • C64
  • Amiga
  • PC Engine
  • Wii U
  • Atari 2600
  • Atari 7800
  • Atari Jaguar

I think I will sell the following game collections:

  • Master System
  • Mega Drive
  • PS1
  • PS2
  • PS3
  • Xbox
  • GameCube

If you are interested, let me know!

@richardtroupe Any use to you? I had a poke around in that Pentium-D machine I accquired. There's a R400 based (2005) graphics card in it and it POSTs OK, but also there's corrosion visible on many motherboard pads so I'm not sure I really want to bother doing anything with it myself.

richardtroupe,

@nivrig Hey! Thanks for the message and apologies for the delay. I'd certainly be interested in it, at least to give it a go at cleaning up if that's ok?

Rogue Declan boxed editions pencilled in for January, depending on vague things I have no control over. But they’re coming ⚔️⚔️

richardtroupe,

@nivrig I can't wait! I'll definitely be ordering a copy!

That time I became one with TV

richardtroupe,

@nivrig Hahaha! A fair comparison.

I've just started playing The Briley Witch Chronicles on C64 this evening and it's already a wonderful game in its opening stages.

I'll be keeping up with this game!

I have finally got my C64 online! It's time to hit the bulletin boards.

Had a meeting with my financial adviser this morning.

Fuck.

richardtroupe,

@nivrig Remortgage? I had this meeting earlier in the year and it was grim.

richardtroupe,

@nivrig OOOF! Grim on the retirement front, good news on the mortgage front.

until a friend mentioned Decker, i had forgotten that a few months ago i had started templating an interactive e-book with it

i had written the book several years ago - a memoir of growing up through the TRS-80/IBM PC/Macintosh/BBS/Early WWW eras... part confessional, part computing history, part childhood coming of age story.

i've had a lot of trouble wanting to publish it. i honestly don't know if this is something anyone would want to read.

so i started playing with decker, turning it into an interactive -like ebook experience.

still not sure what to do with it, but i thought i'd share a screencap of the first couple pages here :)

edit - Decker link, if you haven't heard of it. wonderful hypercard/macromedia director-like editor: https://internet-janitor.itch.io/decker

An ebook-like interface built using Decker. It shows two pages, as if written in a journal. The title reads: "how gaming made me: growing up in Canada with computers, video games and cyberspace in the 80s and 90s" My wife sensed my hesitation and gave me a sidelong glance. 'When's the last time you played any of these honey?' 'Um...' The first page reads: I stood among a couple dozen steel shelves filled with hundreds of computer games, monitors, towers, keyboards, video game consoles and cartridges, scratching my beard and trying to decide what to do with it all. It was the fifth time in as many years that I was forced to move my retro computing and gaming collection, and I was getting tired of hauling it around with me. What had started as a single narrow shelf of beloved computer games in the den of my childhood homee had swollen to a hulking composite of plastic, cardboard and data crammed into every nook and cranny of the office. The user clicks on the 'next page' button and it flips to a second page. The second page has a minigame which involves clicking on diskette icons to spell out a sentence.

richardtroupe,

@vga256 This is wonderful! I'd be interested to read it once it's completed.

Forced my lazy ass out on the bike this morning. Bit nippy early on at 2C I’m massively unfit after not really cycling much since the crash, but I dragged myself round about 20 miles.

richardtroupe,

@nivrig Good work! 20 miles is a great stretch.

I need a hacked/hackable Nintendo Switch, for the obvious reasons...

I need to explore why Wheel of Fortune (2017, Switch) has an image from an incest anime in it, and I can't figure it out in an emulator

A 1987 Master System AD by Tonka. The company distributed the Master System in the US from 1987 to 1990. It was never a great success in the States, since Nintendo had exclusive agreements with all possible third party developers for the NES, while Tonka could only count on Activision and Parker Brothers.

richardtroupe,

@damianogerli it should have been called the Tonka System.

A bit of fun was had on my Amiga 1200 this evening.

I tidied up my hard drive, played some Turrican 2 and used my fully licensed version of iBrowse to surf the world wide web.

Interestingly, as an experiment, I logged into itch.io to download the Rogue Declan update by @nivrig. I got as far as the download page before the site just noped out on me.

In the end, I ended up using my Linux laptop and Compact Flash to transfer the files. Great update to the game by the way!

@llamasoft_ox I assume you are talking about Duolingo? How do you find the listening exercises?

I'm currently learning Irish and the start and end of words are often cut off. 😩

I never do much for Halloween. I feel like I should do something though, like watch a scary movie or make a sacrifice to our Dark Lord. I didn’t have any trick or treaters tonight and I’m all out of goats, so I guess I’ll see what’s on TV.

richardtroupe,

@nivrig 😂

Fuck.

I accidentally lifted 3 pads when trying to remove a faulty voltage regulator on my Atari Jaguar.

I even practiced on another motherboard beforehand and it went fine. Argh.

richardtroupe,

@paulrickards it's good to know that it's not only me! I'm going to leave it to someone with the proper equipment and patience.

I'll practice doing bodge wires on a spare test board I have... Definitely not on my Jaguar.
