@gruber I know it doesn’t mean much, and I know one reader who has read literally every post of yours for 20 years doesn’t mean much, but when thinking about Google employees protesting their company working with the Israeli government, I hope you can maybe think about this photo instead of thinking about how Google must be an amoral business dealing with any genocidal fascist government.
You are wrong. You have sided with genocide. Please! Please! Please!
@ryanmiglavs My position on Google firing these employees has nothing to do with the issue they're protesting. They could be wearing red MAGA hats protesting Trump's trial in NYC. They could be waving Israeli flags protesting for the release of the October 7 hostages Hamas still holds. Or they could be protesting on behalf of Palestinians in Gaza. If you squat in your boss's office and deface the office with propaganda from your side, you're going to get fired.
Every protest is disruptive. It’s the point. Disruption is the only tool available when there’s a major power imbalance.
Every protest comes with comfortable people clucking their tongues, agreeing with the message, just not how they’re protesting. Rules, policy, decorum. Conspicuously, these folks tend to only criticize the protesters, not those with power who quash them.
So, the app I want most on my Apple Vision Pro is MYST. I first got sucked into that world on my Mac in middle school (maybe elementary school?), and I might literally cry if I got to go there in VR.
@ryanmiglavs I really enjoyed Obduction, by the same creators. Not sure if it will get Vision Pro support but it works on the Vive and Oculus. Lovely graphics, interesting puzzles, a little like Myst but also with some Portal vibes
Excellent parsing of that disdainful press release from Apple about their “compliance” with new EU rules, by M.G. Siegler.
“Did you know there are risks in not using a secure payment processor? Probably. But did you know that apparently only Apple offers a secure payment processor?” https://spyglass.org/apple-to-eu-drop-dead/
@gruber You’ve several times stated that lots of Mac users’ computers “are overrun by adware and other scammy software”. This seems way off to me, I genuinely haven’t heard a thing about that; none of my family, friends, or coworkers seems to have this situation.
Do you have some data or examples backing that up? Especially considering how many scams make it onto the iOS App Store?
I’m truly interested, I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m just trying to argue with someone on the internet.
@thomasfuchs@ryanmiglavs Also astounding that people who say that have difficulty saying that the genocide the Democratic president is complicit in and Israel is actively committing is bad
Wow, Reddit admins removed volunteer moderators from subreddits that had voted to protest Reddit’s new policies, archived the subs, then deleted all posts making fun of Reddit CEO Steve Huffman (Spez).
