@blogdiva New York Times in 1922:

"But several reliable, well-informed sources confirmed the idea that Hitler's anti-Semitism was not so genuine or violent as it sounded, and that he was merely using anti-Semitic propaganda as a bait to catch masses of followers and keep them aroused, enthusiastic, and in line for the time when his organization is perfected and sufficiently powerful to be employed effectively for political purposes."

They're talking about grade inflation at the Ivies again. And OK, fair. Everyone gets an A. But can we also talk about educator inflation? Educator inflation is a good thing! By educator inflation I mean: the typical educator at a top tier university today, is miles better at educating, than the typical educator at that same institution 50 years ago.

The field of education is not static. There are constant advances in how material is presented, and how students are supported.

bilal,
@bilal@hachyderm.io avatar

@mekkaokereke In my experience, educators at top tier schools are on average no better than educators at community colleges.

@thomasfuchs @ryanmiglavs Also astounding that people who say that have difficulty saying that the genocide the Democratic president is complicit in and Israel is actively committing is bad

Biden won the last election by a razor-thin margin. Republicans will flood social media with ads about his complicity in genocide in the next election. Democratic voters will find it difficult to hold their nose and vote blue when they see pictures of dead babies. Unless Biden changes stance, we might be looking at the end of democracy in the US. #Biden #uspolitics

Good luck to the NDP and the Liberals in the next elections! Canadian Muslims will remember this.

(Muslims make up 10 percent of the population of GTA and have voted almost entirely NDP/Liberal in the past with a voter participation of up to 80 percent.)

@AlisonCreekside @fifilamoura @AnnieBuddy @thetyee @LALegault The far-right in power will mean rolling back progress that took decades to win and will take decades to win back. There are lessons to be learned from Trump and Bolsonaro. Also, there is a non trivial chance that future election results will not be respected if they are in power. Democracy and the future of the world is at stake. And we cannot afford a conservative government at this stage.

bilal,
@bilal@hachyderm.io avatar

@AnnieBuddy @AlisonCreekside @fifilamoura @thetyee @LALegault The reasons why people don't vote has relatively little to do with Trudeau or NDP disappointing them.

bilal,
@bilal@hachyderm.io avatar

@AnnieBuddy @QueerInTheCountry @AlisonCreekside @fifilamoura @thetyee @LALegault NDP needs plenty of not so gentle shoves itself. Their disqualification of climate activist Anjali Appadurai in BC, their pursuit of oil pipeline in Alberta, and the silence of federal NDP leaders in the face of it all should disabuse one of any notion that they will be climate champions in power.

I keep thinking about trying to write another zine about git -- for me git is something I feel totally confident using and I never really run into problems, and I really wish I could telepathically send that sense of confidence to everyone who’s struggling with git

@b0rk I came across SQL zine a while ago when I first started learning SQL. I loved it. It was concise and explained some concepts in a way no other resource did. I know I will find your explanation of git useful.

Shockingly, Mayor Sutcliffe has come out once more against @NCC_CCN’s Active Use program on Queen Elizabeth Drive.

We still struggle to understand why, given that this contradicts everything from equity to the City’s commitments.

In this thread, we offer a few resources. 🧵👇

Affirmative action was never about admitting unqualified Black kids. It was always about ensuring qualified Black kids could also get accepted despite a world of systemic racism.

The “unqualified admission” you’re thinking of are legacy students—like how Kavanaugh got into Yale, or how George W. got into yale, or how Kushner got into Harvard.

Every GOP accusation is a confession, and this is no exception.

bilal,
@bilal@hachyderm.io avatar

@QasimRashid Every top college receives many more qualified applicants than they can admit by their own admission. There is no good excuse that their student body does not reflect the diversity of the general population.

Nearly doored on Bloor Street. Rear door flew open just as I was coming past. Person getting out said "Just stop it, fing bh." I said, "You can't stop there, you nearly killed me." Her: "I don't f***ing care."

I don't know what's more upsetting, the near-miss or that conversation. 😞

@mbonsma I am so sorry. That is a horrifying experience. Hope you are doing okay. This would leave me shaken for a while.

I love your posts about the beauty and joy of biking. I also appreciate posts like this one that share the serious dangers we face due to poor infrastructure and obnoxious people.

Somebody should probably share this with Dave Shellnut on Twitter.
