Sad dad

Hosted a Troubled Loners Boomerang Club dinner group for a few years, but that got nuked by covid.

Love to cook with my sous vide, smoke foods, and fermentation

Programmer and reluctant tech manager

Single dad with adult daughter (full time) and teenage son (part time)

Love the maker hobbies and still on the sane side of the fine line between tinkerer and hoarder

Should really reconsider filling out profile bios late at night

It was a conspiracy crafted by "Big 0". You have to understand the role of the zero industrial complex in the early days of BCPL..

The theme of the current itch.io game jam is "bullet hell": https://itch.io/jam/bullet-hell-v

I am so happy about this

I love bullet hell games

I never feel more at peace than when I'm frantically and maniacally navigating through outer space, trying to find the tiny, one-pixel-wide-margin-of-error gap between a snowstorm of alien missiles

I got banned from my friends atari with those games because I kept breaking the joystick because I was trying to make the spaceship go faster.

โ€œThe media loves talking to PR people when it comes to corporations,โ€ Piker said. โ€œThey have no problem talking to the media liaison when it comes to the NYPD or the LAPD and writing down everything they say without even asking remotely contentious questions. But when it comes to students, they donโ€™t treat these students as an organized entity at all.โ€ https://wapo.st/3y2WMp3

NYT says Israel claims not to have seen bombing an Iranian consulate in a third country, killing senior officials, as a provocation.

Uh huh.

The Times story calls this a "miscalculation" by Netanyahu.

Cable ISP fined $10,000 for lying to FCC about where it offers broadband

Small ISP admitted lying to FCC about size of network to block funding to rivals.

@arstechnica
Typical.
Broadband would exploded 15 years ago except for Cable interference, lobbying, and straight out corruption that kept digital networks from competing

Small town networks used provisions to keep out iptv because franchise incentives were to provide bare minimums of service until they could cash out when one of the big networks wanted to expand.

It was a status quo encouraged by the majors and enforced by their lobbyists at the state legislatures

Network-connected wrenches in factories can be hacked for sabotage or ransomware

Researchers identify 23 vulnerabilities, some of which can exploited with no authentication.

If that is replacing the integration test, then you have a classic unit test fallacy and objectively worse than the original testing scheme.

What you have here is a discount robot with a meat-based delivery and logistics mechanism.

As mentioned elsewhere, subject to calibration and programming errors--and now network vulnerabilities.

Guaranteed that management is not going to pay 10x the cost for hardware and infrastructure without cutting costs elsewhere
