"The House could then sit until 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024."

So they're really going for a whole two months of extended sitting instead of two weeks heh. Maybe I should have waited until September for my assignment 💀

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@casseagull You mean the days they aren't sitting? We help our colleagues who translate all the House and Senate committees :)
(but it's much shorter days, like 1800 words instead of 4000-5000 like we get during extended sittings)

Someone must have "heard" me. One of the revisors just complimented my work, out of the blue 😭

One of my least favourite things about Ottawa is that everyone expects you to have a car and be able to just drive to wherever to do whatever. Not my friends, but the general population. It's just so gross.

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@casseagull When I told my manager I couldn't get to the office that easily, her first reaction was "you don't have a car?!" Pff.

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@ShaunOttawa @casseagull I got mine when I was 19 I think? But then my parents refuse to let me get a car "driveway is too small; too bad you're wasting three hours a day minimum on transit because we live in the suburbs".

By the time I was "allowed" to drive again, I was terrified and was having panic attacks... so that's over lol

The topic of first concerts we saw came up today and I was floored to realize that today is the thirtieth anniversary of my seeing Pink Floyd in concert at the Big O (Olympic stadium) in Montreal.

What a band to see live. And really set expectations way too high for other concerts.

What was your first concert?

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@WTL Backstreet Boys with my mom 😆 Evanescence a few years later with a friend!

Mr. Alistair MacGregor: Madam Chair, with respect, the minister is been quite evasive. I am not talking about the Minister of Foreign Affairs. I am not talking about Israeli settlements abroad. I am talking about Canadians who may have broken the law here in Canada regarding the purchase of properties in the occupied Palestinian territories, which is being done here on Canadian soil.

I would like a specific answer to that specific question. That is not under the purview of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. That is under the purview of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

I do not love that a lot of the same driving mentality permeates how people move around on crowded MUPs in If you were in the group of bros loudly ringing your bells in unison to get people walking to move right off the path so you all could blast through the middle so fast I could almost feel you on my left shoulder, well I’ll tell you to fuck off in person when you’re stopped next time too. Slow the hell down and wait a singular minute once in a while

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@WTL I prefer the bell too! Saying "on your left" means you'll confuse all the people who have trouble with their right and left lol!

@msquebanh They're blind, and a minority too! Said they had never had any problems. So ignorant

stephanie,

@msquebanh Ah yes, that makes total sense!

stephanie,

@msquebanh YES. Trump really did a number on Canada too. Ugh. Now we're stuck with even more cheap slogans, etc.

on taking the position that return to office is none of his business, it's between the fed government and the civil service unions.

Curious how it's none of his business now, when the government is increasing days in office. When we were all working remote he sure thought it was his business to lobby to get us back downtown.

stephanie,

@plantarum Anand also said that managers were supposed to be flexible on exemption... Which isn't true at all

Merlin might be my favourite app ever. Just sitting outside, learning the songs of all the birds visiting us. It's the little things!

Also a bee is enjoying the little wood raft (.. it's just a branch) I added into the pie dish that I fill with water lol!

So the second neighbours have also been working on a patio in their yard, and we think some kind of pool with lights?! Anyway, they just installed three big speakers on their house and it might become a nightmare. They just put the radio so loud... Hopefully it's just the excitement?

Is this a cute write up of the difficulties in inter generational communication or a tone deaf essay by a boomer who’s generation has caused multiple existential problems and torn up every social program they could? I guess we’ll just have to all get along, eh? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/first-person-generation-gap-boomers-millennials-1.7211033

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@Auxonic wait, I just read this, this is way worse than I thought. Oh no, seedlings. Oh no, bar soap. Wtf. I bet their "helpful" advice is never well received and they wonder why.

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@Auxonic my parents are mostly okay with technology. But their concerns are so far from ours, it's really hard to take them seriously anymore. It's frustrating not being able to talk about anything serious with them. My dad takes everything I say super personally (like when I shared that we were going mostly vegetarian, etc.). It's exhausting, and I know they find us exhausting with our worldly concerns lol

I was really looking forward to having a nice patio, so I'm glad it's finally done!! (It was supposed to be finished last week, but a longer project before us, rain and a blown tire on the highway delayed them.)

But after going to bed at 5 am because of work, I didn't appreciate the machinery at 8:30 am, and the stone cutting at 4 pm when I was finally napping 😅

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

@casseagull much better! I was done at 2 am, and slept from 3 to 10. I'm much more awake today!

Today is a long sitting again, but it's Opposition Day from the Bloc. Hopefully, that means less English to translate lol!

I haven't always agreed with the NDP these past few years, BUT:

(Yesterday)

Mr. Jagmeet Singh (Burnaby South, ):

Mr. Speaker, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants against five senior Hamas and Israeli leaders. This is a step toward justice for Palestinians and Israeli victims of war crimes.

The Liberals promised to support the ICC when they voted for our motion in March, so will the Prime Minister and the Liberal government state clearly that Canada supports the ICC's work to hold all those responsible for crimes accountable?

stephanie,
