    @ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs long sleeve cardigans and I hate wearing shorts so leg tattoos are rarely visible anyway. I feel like a cardigan is less conspicuous than a hoodie when you are up to mischief, and I have some that are very thin material and tolerable during hot weather. That or a long sleeve button up "flannel" shirt. Target sells cheap ass thin material ones that will protect from sun, hide tattoos and not overheat you.

    Dear everyone who makes zines,

    Please for the love of all that is DIY, use wide margins! Some of us are printing on shitty copiers and the text will scoot on the page when we copy it. This will make it difficult to fold and staple the zine without cutting off parts of text. Wide margins are super helpful at solving this problem without trying to find a better printer.

    Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Mutulu Shakur yesterday. He was released from prison just 6 months prior to his death. Decades of work by activists and abolitionists to free him bought him some time with his family before his passing. His family will be releasing a statement soon.     Finished reading this yesterday. I cried maybe 5 times. has a talent for bringing up little details as odd observations then circling back to them later with further context that is emotional and powerful. Highly recommend.

    Probably the cutest recipe I've done in a while.

    Stuffed portobello mushrooms filled with a mix of sautéed veggies, hummus, ground roasted crunchy peas, vegan feta cheese and topped with cauliflower breadcrumbs. The garnishes are carved radishes stuck onto toothpicks. Vegan, gluten free, nut free, bell pepper free. Everyone at the queer commune full moon potluck squealed with delight when I set them out on the table, which had me blushing with pride 😊

    Every year for my friends birthday I anonymously mail him the most cursed Garfield T-shirt I can find. At this point he has 5 of the most unhinged Garfield shirts one can imagine. He figured out it was me pretty quickly but now it's tradition so I have to keep doing it.

    While showing up to take down a fascist freeway banner yesterday with some comrades, a few different random people from the community showed up with their own wire cutters and their own intentions of cutting the thing down. People we didn't know who just saw it and thought "fuck that, I'm not allowing that to happen" and decided to take action. Pretty heartening stuff 🖤

    🚨 Kolektiva.social SECURITY ALERT 🚨

    This is an alert for Kolektiva.social users. Please read this post in its entirety!

    In mid-May 2023, the home of one of Kolektiva.social's admins was raided, and all their electronics were seized by the FBI. The raid was part of an investigation into a local protest. Kolektiva was neither a subject nor target of this investigation. Today, that admin was charged in relation to their alleged participation in this protest.

    Unfortunately, at the time of the raid, our admin was troubleshooting an issue and working with a backup copy of the Kolektiva.social database. This backup, dated from the first week of May 2023, was in an unencrypted state when the raid occurred and it was seized, along with everything else.

    The database is the heart of a Mastodon server. A database copy such as the one seized may include any of the following user data, in this case up to date as of early May 2023:

    • User account information like the e-mail address associated with your account, your followers and follows, etc.
    • All your posts: public, unlisted, followers-only, and direct ("DMs").
    • Possibly IP addresses associated with your account - IP addresses on Kolektiva.social are logged for 3 days and then deleted, so IP addresses from any logins in the 3 days prior to the database backup date would be included.
    • A hashed ("encrypted") version of your password.

    🚨 👉 As a precaution we highly recommend that all users on Kolektiva.social change their password immediately to a new, unique, and strong password.

    We sincerely apologize to all our users and regret this breach. In hindsight, it was obviously a mistake to leave a copy of the database in an unencrypted state. Unfortunately, what would otherwise have been a small mistake happened to coincide with a raid, due to bad luck and spectacularly bad timing.

    We understand that our users and other people on the Fediverse will have a lot of questions. We will try to answer them as best we can, but please be patient and bear in mind that we may be overwhelmed with messages, and may be delayed in responding or unable to provide answers to certain questions for legal or technical reasons. As a security culture reminder, it can be extremely harmful to the individuals charged and to our community to openly speculate on the Internet about alleged criminal activity or about what law enforcement may be able to do with seized data. Our present awareness is that the seized Kolektiva data is unrelated to the federal investigation and prosecution and we are exploring legal avenues to have the seized data returned and copies destroyed.

    Hey @Homecooking does anybody know what this large ceramic vessel (glazed inside, unglazed bottom) with the aeration hole in the removable ceramic lid is supposed to be? My guess is some kind of fermenter?

    Confirmed from trying to use it as the largest "vase" we have (when I was gifted a massive monstera cutting with three big leaves) that is is NOT water tight and will slowly drip liquid out the unfinished base. My housemate who for some reason owns this thing has no idea what its intended purpose is

    I knew Alex Jones and infowars were strapped for cash because of all the Lawsuits they lost because of all the crimes they committed, but finding out that they basically had a garage sale and one of my friends now owns Alex's old VCR is pretty fucking funny

    Yesterday in the IE (inland empire, southern california, United States, for those unfamiliar) proud boys escalated their tactics significantly. The last several months they have been doing banner drops about once a month and have been thwarted by a rapid response network of local anti fascists who respond to remove the banners.

    Yesterday they laid a trap. They put a banner up on a billboard slightly off the beaten path near an abandoned house. They have done this before, but this time they had lookouts and several members masked up and hiding near the banner waiting for anti fascists to come and remove it.

    Anti fascists ran up and removed the banner once the lookout, IDed as local proud boy Louie Flores, left in his car to do a lap. Shortly after the anti fascists drove off with the banner, multiple black clad presumably proud boys emerged from hiding behind the billboard, possibly in the abandoned house or surrounding brush. They were seen getting into Louie's car when he returned and driving off.

    If is unclear what they planned to do, or why they did not take action. It is possible that their lookout abandoning his post briefly once he'd been spotted meant they were not alerted about people approaching to remove the banner. It is possible that they were expecting a local anti fascist mom who bullies them on tiktok to be the person who removed the banner, and when different people arrived they abandoned their plan.

    What is certain is that this is an escalation from their usual patterns, and someone could have been surrounded and seriously hurt had the situation happened differently. Luckily in addition to the brave folks who ran up the hill to grab the banner, several other anti fascists were also present nearby watching and filming. The decision to wait for backup before moving on the banner was a smart one, and no one from the anti fascist crew was confronted or attacked.

    This is a reminder to use the buddy system, carry deterrents like pepper spray, and work together when taking risky actions.
