Ага. То есть, у нас нельзя:

a) привести на обследование явно страдающего человека, которому не хватает воли пойти к врачу самому из-за болезни;

и

For all the pedants bitching about "Linux not being a real Unix system", there's Dennis Ritchie, the co-creator of the original, the very first Unix OS:

"I don’t really distinguish between Linux and things that are more or less direct descendants of Unix. I think they’re all the same at some level. Often, people ask me, "Do you feel jealous about Linux being the big thing." And the answer is no, for the same reason. I think they’re the same."

I would far prefer browsers fix persistent bugs and accessibility barriers rather than chasing the new shiny in n-week sprints that end up pushing out regressions instead.

tennoseremel,
@tennoseremel@lor.sh avatar

@aardrian Meanwhile browser vendors…

Making already existing ‘widgets’ accessible and not looking like a pile of crap: Na-ah.

Shiny, especially if it's related to DRM, GPU, advertising or generally anything else that turns a browser into OS (unless it's widgets): Oh yeah!

Religions are a lot like fandoms. They serve virtually the same purposes: they provide community by giving an engaging story and characters to bond over, they provide sets of morals and rituals, they provide symbols and codes for identity. And those things are great, and important.

Fandoms are more honest, though. They don't try to dominate over your life, and they don't try to replace your reality by pretending that the story in question has actually happened in our actual world.

We know it's all fake. And it helps to keep it in check.

tennoseremel,
@tennoseremel@lor.sh avatar

@drq They are fandoms.

As noted in my bio, I post long threads from this account and there are many ways to get my essays if my Mastodon style doesn't suit - RSS, newsletter, Medium, Tumblr, a blog, etc. I recommend unfollowing me here and subscribing to one of those if you prefer. Links at pluralistic.net.

@pluralistic I simply hide replies (in tut and Fedilab), which means I only see all messages in a thread whenever I ask for them.

"Google Sites" now supports embedding images.

What you want: <img style="margin: 0 auto;">

What you get:

  • ~100 HTML elements, including 57 unique CSS class names across 83 attributes, 30 hidden DIVs, 3 iframes, 2 external script tags, 2 inline script tags, and 1 actual <img> tag.
  • the <img> is inside an iframe, nested 3 (!) levels of iframes deep.
  • an image cut off in both X and Y directions.
  • not one, but two unwanted scrollbars.

Rant about the world of social media and marketing:

My latest (very recent) shock was receiving an email from a digital painting software company (I can't name them) asking me my price to switch my entire workflow to their proprietary product and announce it on my channels.

Of course I refused.

I'm still 100% committed to Free/Libre&Open-Source Software. But it made me realise that these days even profiles without a huge internet presence are getting paid to use and advocate things. Meh 😔
