NEWSFLASH: GOP-led House finally passes Ukraine aid

After months of postponement in seemingly dead-end negotiations, the Republican-led House of Representatives has finally passed an aid package for .

101 Republicans and 210 Democrats — 311 votes — joined together to support the package.

timkmak, (edited )
@timkmak@journa.host avatar

112 lawmakers, all Republicans, opposed it.

Lawmakers cheered and waved flags on the House floor as the vote’s passage was announced.

The bill promises $61 billion for Ukraine and is part of a larger $95.3 billion package that includes additional funding for Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian aid for Gaza.

The aid package will now be sent to the Senate for consideration.

@timkmak@journa.host avatar

The aid package comes during a pivotal time in Ukraine's struggle.

Russia has been outgunning Ukraine for months, as ammunition shortages have left Ukrainian soldiers fighting with a serious disadvantage.

The House package aims to bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities, improve economic stability, and provide humanitarian aid.

The bill reflects a concerted effort by the U.S. to respond to urgent calls for assistance from the Ukrainian government and its allies.

A Ukrainian long-range drone manufacturer said that not all US representatives support this demand and described that his US contacts "winked" while cautioning against these strikes.

A year ago I went back to Kyiv on my own.

The country had taken a hold of me.

I couldn’t just leave and forget it.

So I started this newsletter, The Counteroffensive.

I wanted to keep reporting on an invasion which has left a terrible mark on millions of people.

Who we are:

Here’s a snapshot into the special skills of the reporters that make up The Counteroffensive!

Here’s a video of me teaching you how to make an improvised tourniquet:
