So what is the best way to remove scrambled egg that has cooked onto the bottom and sides of the pan? 🤔

(Boosts for reach appreciated 🙏😅)

Request for admins: You might've seen this mentioned, but I wrote a tool to help people move their posts when they change instances.

It's still in development, but I'd like to hear from instance admins if there's anything about it they're worried might affect their instances, or anything that could be made clearer in the documentation to help.

The documentation is here: https://mastodoncontentmover.github.io/

If you have time, it'd be great to hear your thoughts 🙏

(Boosts much appreciated!)

I don't think all the "but what if more people find the through " folks have thought about how unlikely the totally algorithmically dominated Threads is to show its userbase content that isn't from Threads. The federation is to pull people into there from here, not the other way around, and the algorithm will be weighted accordingly.

One of the things I like about the is that the pace is (most of the time) much slower than other social sites, particularly those jam packed with ads so you never look away.

I like that it goes a bit quiet at the weekend. I like that sometimes people reply or interact with your posts five or six days later. The manageability and lack of immediacy and overwhelm makes it better.

The idea that it's too hard for creators of AI systems to say where they got the learning data is just weak. If you don't know, you were negligent. If you can't be sure you're not violating copyright, it's on you to delete what you have and start again (and keep notes this time). Throwing your hands up and saying "we are where we are" is not a valid legal defence.

Are there any compatible calendar services?

(Thinking of people who want to replace something like Outlook or Google calendar, perhaps for personal use or for a public/team calendar, while avoiding big corporate tech providers... am aware of Zoho but I don't think that talks ActivityPub at all)

Are there any decent tools to archive accounts other than one's own yet? (given that the site could implode at any moment)

Could really use one that'll save text and media. Doesn't have to be in a browseable UI type format - am happy to dig into text and image files if they're organised sensibly.

I can't read because of rate limits but somehow the spam bots can still run hundreds of "woman's name + loadsanumbers" accounts linked to dating apps, churning through months-old posts and "interacting" with them with impunity.

How about that.

It's almost like policies are not being universally applied.

If is going to stick with daily quotas they need some kind of indicator to show how many posts you have left.

What I used to think of as success:

  • a nice car
  • nice clothes
  • a job people respect
  • a good degree/education from a reputable institution
  • a gym membership
  • a plush, well-furnished home
  • status
  • money
  • "lifestyle"
  • approval
  • things people can see
  • things that make it hard for anyone to say you are not successful

@augieray How are you doing? Well I hope

Ugh... has basically trashed itself with a redesign. Any good recommendations for alternatives? Used to love how easy it was to find related emoji with simple search terms, and also how easily you could see how they looked on different platforms. Now you have to click about five times to get the same thing, and then scroll, too. Use it every day so need an alternative 😬

Even acknowledging the limited sample, that over two thirds of users are prepared to move to be on an instance that defederates from Meta is significant.

Those who insist (and other apps) are too complicated for people to sign up with are really overlooking the complexity of the world in which typical people function every day of the week. Have they tried using a washing machine recently? So many buttons! So many program choices!!! And yet the clothes keep getting washed....

Just in case there was any confusion, moves posts from a account to another Mastodon account. It has nothing to do with Calckey. If you try to use it with Calckey, it won't work... because it's built for Mastodon. Clue is in the name. Love you all.... 💕

Oh my god I've seen more news coverage of this submersible in 24 hours than I have about drowning migrants in the past year.

Are there any instances that don't run full-text search and don't support quote toots? 🤔

tokyo_0, to fediverse

Would be really good to be able to selectively subscribe to posts in certain languages for a few of the people I follow, but it looks like other services aren't reporting the post language correctly 🤔 (Or per-post language settings is a only feature so the filter won't work with any other platforms' feeds)

Back in November I wanted to write a tool that would pipe news into Mastodon (well, the Fediverse) while automatically identifying appropriate terms for content warnings and applying them, to try to preserve the content warning culture here that allows people to manage how they engage with potentially difficult material in an increasingly challenging world.

Because of bot restrictions on many instances I felt I'd need to basically write a server to do this, which...

Thinking about these projects that will give or access to the .

The biggest problem I see is the number of Meta users inundating Fediverse platforms and overwhelming the culture, if not the tech.

Most Meta users have no idea what the Fediverse is.

They won't even know their extra followers are from or or ; they'll be new people from Meta Fediverse™. That won't be true, but most will be none the wiser. The perception will win.

Just saw a Lemmy post boosted here in Mastodon, showing up in my feed just the same way everything else does, threaded the way it should be (in the interface here) and then presented in a different way on the original Lemmy page... and people comfortably interacting in each, with one another, across different services.

The is pretty impressive. I like it.

Surely the reckoning — for those who exploit their position and privilege, for those who profit and feather their nests at such great cost to others, for those who think nothing of operating unreasonably — has to come soon.

Surely.
