If you don't have public conversations with quality critics of your worldview, you're not better than partisan/ideological corporate media. Especially when you routinely mock the people you disagree with. You're facilitating an echo chamber. You're serving an audience junk food, scared they might abandon you if you step out of line. It makes democracy harder to sustain. You're only an alternative to the mainstream in the most superficial sense possible. It's still a grift.

Which nations, named or considered a homeland for an ethnicity, treat people differently based on their religion or ethnicity? Cause I can go for (including maybe the Palestinian territories) being Jewish in the same way that Greece is Greek etc. You don't get special rights anywhere in Europe afaik for having the related heritage. It would probably take decades of UN forces and a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to make that work. What side does this put me on?

I get that #nostr is popular with people who don't want to share a server with anybody (and their rules). But don't lots of people achieve that with a stripped down implementation of #ActivityPub?

People say government is about power. Get all that you can and forget the losers who can't break the necessary threshold to pass what they want. But that's how we got here. It doesn't sustain a democracy. That approach leads to people not believing each other or news they dislike. Not willing to compromise, not willing to accept losing an election. That's why civility is necessary. Why empathy is required. Our mean political, cable news and social media cultures must be improved.

If shot a puppy live on TV, how would his supporters respond? My guess is half would say it makes them more likely to vote for him (very smart, very brave), and the other half would say it was an AI fake by the lamestream media.

If every article, podcast episode and video was natively an #ActivityPub post, we'd need quote posts but want them to operate differently. They should count as a boost but with a clear indication that the person you are following also wants you to see their comment. How should that look? Maybe they wouldn't themselves be boostable... #SocialWeb

If went for viewpoint diversity, wouldn't it need to entertain flat earthers etc? So I'll agree that background diversity makes sense, but race and gender and sexual orientation are not enough. We should also want diversity of economic status, education and location etc. You have to try to do it all.

I'd rather there be harder lines drawn between reporting and commentary. Big orgs that try to be neutral for the former, total decentralization for the latter. All funded directly.

I don't doubt that there's antisemitism in the but my bet is it's being played up by many to try to shut them down, because people fear they will lessen US support for . Same reason that reasonable discussion of issues like immigration gets called racist. There will always be bad faith actors, but there's also good faith involved. What's the best journalism you've seen about these actions?

Recognizing people are pissed about spending taxes paid by poorer people who didn't go to college on , what if we created a separate new tax on the very wealthy to pay for it? Or corporate profits. Make it an ongoing separate fund that also paid for trade school. Would that make (almost) everybody happy?
