I get that #nostr is popular with people who don't want to share a server with anybody (and their rules). But don't lots of people achieve that with a stripped down implementation of #ActivityPub?
@wjmaggos nostr is not a bad project, but it's still using instances's just calling them relays and not promoting the community side of this. The conversations around this are not the best. People argue that #bluesky and #nostr are both spoilers on #activitypub there is some truth to this, though am more they are all #4opens and diversity is good, but please be honest path.

Still I do not get the fixation on blocking, especially instance blocking, here, probably since I never had problems with anyone online.
It happens from time to time that I cannot follow people here, since our instances do not federate.
That could not happen on Nostr.
blocks should only be about harassment imo, not posts people don't want to stumble upon. but my experience in the more free speech areas is that people hide their identities and rarely express anything like a lefty view. a fedi without some controls will be very impersonal and biased right. a fedi with too many controls will be biased left. I don't know that nostr tech can strike that balance but I think we can here once the founder culture influence lessens a bit.
