any plans to support android Auto so I can easily play podcasts while driving (and control them from the car screen)?

Dear fedi, today I'm looking at self-hosting (webserver, family nextcloud,...) from our home.

Situation: I got a big fat fiber entering the house and my isp provides both fixed ipv4 and ipv6coming in through a fritzbox. Behind that is an asus router for the home lan/wifi that has all boxen connected (nas, osmctv, laptops, phones) connected.

I'd like to properly secure this setup (modify if needed), exposing some services transparantly (!) for family members on the internet (notably nextcloud, maybe others), i.e. not changing configs on phones or laptops when outside the home.

How do I go about this? Can you share good (pref non corpo, no commercial solutions) blogs & guides to get me on the right track? Good pointers as well (I'm comfortable on the linux cli, scavenging manpages and sandboxing/testing stuff in containers/vm's). I'm mainly looking for good pointers on networking, routing, firewalling I guess..

Some zealots at work are spreading the word about the "energy efficiency of programming languages"..
Does anyone know of a serious blog-post that debunks those zealots?

If the Belgian gov wants to join the fediverse like the Dutch did, we'll have to set up 5 instances at least. One for the federal gov, the Flemish, the Walloon, Brussels and the German part.
Then let's hope they don't defederate each other (NVA will probably go for that). 😂

woozong,
@woozong@post.lurk.org avatar

@n3wjack
just like they set up 5 instances of any other type of system 😁

no worries of that happening any time soon though... they will go through public tenders, offers from large consultancies and multi-year projects first.

My son is an artist and wants to stop using adobes online portfolio thing, so I’m going to help him set something up.

I’m wondering if there are any awesome foss options out there for something like this (if not we’ll do it the old fashioned way).

piwigo and photoprism are two open-source photo sites for self-hosting. Both are in my "I should look at these when the need arises" bookmarks list.

    haha.. same here. I do get up early on purpose to get some undisturbed meditation time.
    This morning, 6:50, ready to sit on the zafu, the little critters were there.. I made caring for them (breakfast, breaking up the first little fights, potty, etc...) into my zen exercise today.
    But I'd love some really quiet time :)

    What does everybody use besides Gmail for webmail?
    I'm kinda hooked on the features (threads, search, rules, labels) but I hate the constant snooping and the ads. Currently, I'm looking into using a plain IMAP inbox at my hoster, but I need a good webmail client for that.
    The default Roundcube is kinda limited featurewise.

    I accepted a new gig as Security Enginner - Unity (client) with VRChat, and I am so excited to start in about a week. Y'all have no idea.

    It ticks a lot of boxes for me, personally. It leans into my Unity gamedev experience, my MMORPG appsec experience, a healthy dose of malware r/e, and social VR. In most roles, I only get to flex a few of those at a time.

    The hold music stops. What do you hear?

    woozong,
    @woozong@post.lurk.org avatar

    @craigmaloney
    there's a weekly show on Belgian radio, called Nieuwe Feiten ("New Facts") that has an item that asks the listeners to invent words for concepts that don't have a Flemish/Dutch word yet, but should.
    One of the proposed words is for the 4th option (yes, voted ;))... "Fuk Elise" for when the hold music stops momentarily, and then, after making you hopeful, just starts over again.
