I think I've finally put my finger on what's been bugging me about modern game design. It's not the mechanics or storylines or anything like that.

What has been bugging me the most is that the assets in most games released these days look like they've been molded from plastic to look like children's toys.

Is this a Unity thing? It seems to be especially prevalent in games developed on that platform.

I'm going to try to get that technical stream going today. One thing I need to be a bit careful about is hooking up my S3 bucket in the CMS config. I want to try to avoid exposing my credentials so I think I'll work on that before going live.

If it turns out I can't get around to it today, I'll do another Dwarf Fortress stream instead.

Well I'm sort of glad I tried to install ghost before doing the technical stream.

It seems like I run into an error on the "docker-compose" step of "yarn setup" when I try to initialize the project. I'm not sure what the issue might be though it looks like a version compatibility issue (I'm running the latest version of docker).

I was hoping this would be a good replacement for keystonejs but I'll be honest; I did not have these issues with that CMS. Looks like I'll be sticking with that.

I'm genuinely curious how hard it would be to write an ActivityPub plugin by myself? Would this even be wise? 🤔

Well, keystonejs install ran without a hitch.

I will start a new project rather than migrating the old one because I didn't really plan the database schema that well last time. Also, since I need to migrate my old S3 bucket to a new region it will just be easier to start over than try to copy over everything.

So there will be a shift in plans.

I'm going to do the setup work, including getting the new S3 bucket set up and configuring the CMS. I want to be careful about exposing API keys on a public stream so I need to do it off camera to minimize risk. I'll probably complete this by this evening since I don't have to worry about creating a whole new configuration.

When it comes to the actual coding part of the project I'll kick of the tech stream. I'm hoping I can do this next week or weekend.

You know how rich folks make comments that betray they don't pay attention to grocery prices when shopping?

That's what it feels like when I see some folks casually comment about emigrating. They have no idea about the many serious issues that keep people rooted where they are even if they long ago would have tried to go somewhere they feel fits them better.

This weekend I have two streams planned.

Today: Volcano Embark, but with economic milestones cranked up to 10x their original values. This will likely make the game a little unbalanced, but that's OK. This is Dwarf Fortress. Unbalanced is how we roll.

Tomorrow: I have a technical stream planned. I'll be setting up a CMS that will be adding support for ActivityPub this year and I want to see how it works.
