He's a fascist troll. Block him. Check his history. Classic "rack up reputation in game subs and then spam right wing hate speech everywhere else". Dude is a total fash troll, again, block him. Fedi works best when we block those guys because just responding to them is spreading their messages through your network.

I'm gonna propose to the alien believers a different explanation of UAPs: they're black projects. Yes all those physics defying things are man made, and they probably have an understanding of physics we don't currently know about in the wider public.

Technology trends exist. We can see them. It's no wonder that every generation's stereotype of unidentified craft always always always mimicked the latest generation of military flight tech. That's what's been true since the inception of the whole thing. It's true today too, thirty years from now we'll get a public look at the crafts they're testing out in the skies today. Be that because they get used or because they become obsolete. Thats how it goes.

So why the hearings in Congress? Because they're black projects. We're talking trillions in this rabbit hole. Congress very much has an urgent want to understand what they military might be keeping from it, vis a vis private contractors. We're talking multiple times the budgets of nation-states and we're getting receipts that are basically "trust me bro"s.

But Congress can't very well tell the truth of all that without undermining the American military, and thereby America itself. So they go along with the same "aliens" reasoning, "uhh yeah, let's go with that, okay", and keep pressing for more information.

Is that crazy? Yeah, you bet. But it's no crazier than believing all that and that there's aliens. Because the alien conspiracy crowd asserts virtually everything I just said, just, with aliens. Aliens aren't necessary for any of it though.

In the history of nations there's never been a more sure-fire way to lose democracy than making an enemy of the military complex propping it up. So Congress ought to be careful too, keep a little plausible deniability for themselves.

No one is demonizing this particular thing. People are complaining about a senator who needs to give way to a younger, more progressive person.

Like a 70 year old. /s Jokes aside this highlights things well.

Seriously though, no one is demonizing the thing. They're pointing out the thing adds strong evidence to the arguments they've been making for the better part of the last 20 years. When W Bush went under the knife he signed over power to Cheney. That's the responsible thing to do. On the same token, Feinstein has indicated the likelihood that she is unable to serve her role in numerous ways, with this just being one more way. If she can no longer speak for herself, how can she speak for Californians? I live here, BTW. I'm affected directly.

Alt-right: These people want literal genocide.

"Leftists": These people want healthcare and affordable housing and a true living wage and perhaps not to be afraid of dying every time they interact with police.

You : these two extremes are both untenable, there's a compromise here we can all agree on.

You don't come off as enlightened, you come off as ignorant. Edit, yep he's just a regular, cowardly fascist. Honestly I have more respect for the swastika wearing khaki boi than I do for these pitiful little trolls. At least the guy wearing a swastika has the conviction and the balls to say what he actually thinks. He's wrong, he's awful, but at least he isn't a fucking coward too.

Block the guy, reader, he wants to waste your time and energy and frustrate you. That's his goal.

You, in my head.

You don't even know what "identity politics" means, apparently.

Don't bother with your half-cocked reply, asshole, I already blocked you and I recommend other readers do the same.

No joke, start digging into the guys who made ancient aliens and not too long after you start seeing Nazi shit in their past. Like explicitly so, not tangentially related, not "neo" but actual Nazis. Historical revisionism is literally the basis of the show, so you shouldn't be surprised that the main players are Holocaust deniers.

Wanna know who wrote the book the show is based on? It wasn't Von Daniken. He only wrote the first, unsuccessful draft. Utz Utermann rewrote the second draft that actually became very popular. Guess where he was from? Guess what he was doing during WW2? Writing propaganda for the Hitler Youth and working as the editor for Nazi newspapers. I'm dead serious.

Ancient Aliens is just soft selling literal, actual mystic Nazism and it always, always, always has been.

https://wallethub.com/edu/states-most-least-dependent-on-the-federal-government/2700

That's a better study honestly. I won't be trusting an article written by a journalist with a mononym, thanks .. that article you listed puts California as the single most dependent state, and that's absurd. There's no study there, it's just the mononym journalist's very poorly organized citations..

And the study I linked does demonstrate that red states are more dependent on the federal government than blue states, by ten ranks on average.

Edit that's actually just a crappy blog and that journalist isn't a journalist at all, she's a video game blogger. Yeah.

Unreal. You must have gone to like page 12 of Google results to find one that gave you California as the worst owner, and without any irony at all that blog you linked is called "balancing everything". FFS talk about disingenuous "sharing a source".

He bought it because he got caught red handed trying to commit securities fraud and if he didn't make good on his offer, the SEC would've at the very least kicked him out of the markets, if not put in prison.

He is now trying to destroy it faster than it will destroy him. Social media is too expensive to run without a carousel of new investors. He can't get any since he took it private. He can't pull the plug on it or his existing investors will crucify him, they're just biding their time on a lawsuit already.

He over played his hand and he is suffering consequences for it. This doesn't make him smart, mind you. He's just scrambling to cover his ass from a blatantly poor and criminal decision.

Old news, predates Twitter. His popularity is wildly over estimated. It's inflated. It's fake. Always was meme.

Ask yourself these questions..

How long until http protocol is monetized?

How long until POP, IMAP and SMTP (collectively referred to as 'email') is monetized?

How long before torrents are monetized?

The answer is, quite nearly from the start you could .. but anyone can still do everything you could with those protocols by themselves, for free, without any strings. Still people monetized all those things early.

Because those are all just protocol, or a digitized agreement on rules of communicating fixed sets of information. Sets like an email, or a website, or a collection of files. No one owns any of these rules they just exist and any two computers can agree on them and use that to exchange information.

Fediverse is a protocol. Lemmy, kbin, mastodon, and the others are all just programs talking the same protocols. No one allowed any of them to do so, they just agreed to. All the entities that make up the fediverse agreed to the same thing, so all of them can talk to each other, in theory. In practice each one can choose which others it wants to talk to. Just like you can build an email client that just will not send emails to Gmail. It's not because it can't but because it doesn't want to.

I gotta be honest, I am all for world governments encouraging and yes, facilitating billionaires to hurt each other in one-on-one combat. Sell tickets and snacks why not. Pay per view. Just give the money to government services.

What with estate taxes, I would think it's potentially quite a valuable use of a goverment's time.

Tech startups of all kinds are being devalued the last 12 months. The tech sector was always heavily based in speculation and so as the markets recoil, the tech sector was going to feel it the hardest. People have been predicting that for years, literally.

The reddit devaluation falls in line with all that, not really the migration at all. Guys I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Fidelity's valuation experts don't give one shit about the happiness of the users, and only give half a shit about the number of them -- which, that number comes from reddit themselves on a "trust me bro" basis, like the user counts of any service. Let me even go one step further: the louder you complain about reddit, the more important you make reddit look, the more valuable you make reddit to investors. You have to re-frame your thinking when considering markets like this: users are not customers, they're products. "Look at the reaction of all those users" is what this migration boils down to, to those valuation experts.

On the exact same note you can bet on the rising popularity of any given celebrity by the number of their detractors. See a new starlet getting hated on by everyone on Twitter? They're going to sell more albums because of it. Every time.

Edit: Just like the trolls, your best bet to change the landscape of social media is to ignore the bad actors, including the social medias themselves. Don't engage with them and don't advertise for them by talking about them. Kbin's second largest magazine is RedditMigration. You're defining this place by the continued existence of reddit. Guys: Move. On. Let it die.

Ah but you see, these types are only satiated not by interaction and being social, but by trolling.

We have seen time and again how their right wing social networks crumble and die. It's because they aren't trying to be social, they want to be antisocial. And they can't be that way without a target to attack. Too long without one and they just attack each other, and tear down their social media echo chamber in the process. See Voat.

That's why they keep coming back to places like this. They get a hard on from your negative reactions. That's what they're here for, this is pornography for them. You can't stroke your ego by yourself.

Don't down vote them, block them. That's how you fight them effectively. Every downvote just tells them to keep coming back. They need your reaction or they will die. Don't feed them.

Edit, you see how many upvotes they get? Half a dozen. That means there's only half a dozen of them in this thread and just look at the response they gather. They do it easily by spamming their hate. They are so so few, just block them. When 90 people downvote them, you just told them to come back for more of what they want.

Counter point: Fallout 4 has you searching for your kidnapped son. I'm a father, in actuality. So to me that's an imperative too, but it didn't stop me from building skyscrapers in the interim. There was no real death clock, so I really don't get your criticism there.

Shit, final fantasy 7 is one of the greatest games of all time and that asteroid will sit there in the sky as long as you let it. You're reaching hard. The more I think on it, nearly every open world game has some imperative story point and they'll happily wait for you to get there. You get tuberculosis in RDR2 and you will live forever as long as you avoid the last mission. This isn't uncommon at all.

Fresh vs store bought is really a world of difference in tomatoes. Store bought tomatoes are treated with ripening chemicals, making them redden and appear ripe, but they aren't. So they taste bad. We really need a vegetable revolution in the states because for how pretty your local grocery store's produce aisle is, it's not good.

TIL that producers of the 1980 STAR WARS Christmas music album replaced the lead singer for the track "R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with the 17 y/o kid who was sweeping floors at the studio, and he nailed it. His name was Jon Bon Jovi. (en.wikipedia.org)

Christmas in the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album is a record album produced in 1980 by RSO Records. It features recordings of Star Wars-themed Christmas songs and stories about a droid factory where the robots make toys year-round for "S. Claus". His name is actually John Francis Bongiovi and at the time that's what he went by. It was 3 years later he formed Bon Jovi.

Only because I hate the "that guys name was ..." format.

Also fun fact, Bon Jovi is named such because John Bongiovi wanted people to pronounce his surname correctly, the exact same thing Chef "Boy-ar-Dee" Boiardi did decades prior.

Actually Prigozhin is arguably waaayyyy worse. Putin is a ruthless warlord just like Prigozhin, yes. They have equally virulent ideologies, yep.

But Putin is a politician first and Prigozhin is 100% not. Say what you want of Putin but deep down he still gives a shit about projecting certain images of control, law, etc -- he still values the opinion of certain international communities. He is still the leader of a government, not just a battalion or an army.

Prigozhin doesn't give a shit about any of that, he is a simple and ruthless warlord without any pretense of governance at all, who only understands force and who has no qualms about being open in his toxic ideologies.

I think it's extraordinarily unlikely Prigozhin actually accomplishes any of his own goals towards Russia because he isn't a politician and he's just a thug, but I also think it's equally unlikely Putin's Russia recovers from this. Wagner was Putin's pitbull. They were virtually the entirety of professional real soldiers Russia had under its command. No more pit bull changes things dramatically. We can easily expect a social "downgrade" of Russia's status as superpower in the eyes of other nations. That leaves some big doors open for China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, and of course, the United States.

We may be on the cusp of a second break up of the USSR, further breaking Russia down into disparate nationstates. That possibility offers a lot of problems on its own. It's no longer a question of "rogue warlord gains control of russian nukes", now its "russian nukes don't exist, now those nukes belong to 15 new whatever-istan nations, each without any pre-existing relationships or treaties". That's scarier. Doubly so because in that big muck of former Russian states, Wagner could still be around in the middle of it with the biggest dick on the block. He'd predictably go Atilla, march through every one of them and conscript every dude over 16 to fight. And history tells us over and over just how those situations end: global-scale wars. Conqueror types never stop, they just keep conquering until they get stopped.

Itty53,

That dude 100% deserved it. Not for anything he said but for being a tech career guy and wiring his house up so hard he couldn't open it without Alexa. He wouldn't have been able to open it without wifi either.
