Kibby's winning by a lot right now, but I hope Bink wins! I really like that name

It'll be fun to see all of the ports of it to random systems in the next few years

I also really like Bink. It's short, simple, and it's really cute

Absolutely hilarious show, I definitely recommend it

I'm really happy to see what it's growing into! When I joined, there were only a few thousand users across Lemmy and kbin, and it was pretty quiet. But the quality was definitely there, which is what convinced me to stay. I'm also really happy that casualconversation is over here, I used to be pretty active on the subreddit but stopped using it a while ago, definitely gonna be more active here again :)

Should we be more enthusiastically asking questions to build content on here?

Over many years of using messageboards, forums and reddit, I've had the 'search, don't ask' ethos drilled into me, the idea being that creating new threads to ask simple questions is a bad thing because it decreases the signal-to-noise ratio of content....

That's a great idea! I've kept adding reddit to my queries (because it works), but I need to change that

Alright, Elon broke Twitter. That means we are all should just stay over here now, right?

@TolarianCollege Maybe you should make a video about Mastodon (and Lemmy), that'd be awesome!

Boosting is like retweeting, it doesn't make sense for it to be private.

artillect,
artillect avatar

If you follow someone on kbin, and they boost a thread, it'll show up in your feed. It's sorta like crossposting to your user page on reddit

artillect,

Boosting is only available on kbin

I can't remember what it's called, but there's a bot on reddit that replies to comments with links to posts if they get linked someplace else. Having a bot like that would be great for here (and other communities)! In lieu of that, I think having people reply to comments saying "I posted this on /m/bestof" with a link to their post (but a bit lengthier, maybe with a set format?) would work as well

The album Spendor and Misery by Clipping is awesome, it's an industrial hip-hop sci-fi concept album about a colony ship (I think?). The Breach and Wake Up are my favorites from it. Their EP The Deep is also pretty good, it's about an underwater society made up of the descendants of people who were pushed off of slave ships rising up to take the surface world back.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, there's Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer (although the sci-fi themes are a bit less out in the open). Her other albums take some inspiration from sci-fi as well

Edit: Oh, and how could I forget Knights of Cydonia by Muse

Probably Minecraft, Skyrim, or another game with good mod support from the community. I'd never get bored

What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful

At first it was all about presenting data in an original looking way. In the end it was about pushing political ideas in your throat using a plain bar graph. It was not about sharing something interesting you found but about taking advantage of a captive audience.

/r/mapporn is another one that has gone down the spiral, it has a lot of the same problems as /r/dataisbeautiful.

I think the one that frustrated me the most was /r/data_irl, where about half the people in there take the sub's name literally for some reason and think it's for actual data in real life, and not a data version of /r/me_irl

Oh god I cannot imagine playing it in VR, it's already scary enough on a normal screen

Reddit allowed you to see the exact number of upvotes and downvotes until 2014, and it had a similar effect to how it is over here. It feels great to have them back!

/kbin test environments

Hi, new test instances are now available. The previous frontend changes were mostly cosmetic. But now I would like to take a closer look at a few bigger things, like this. However, maintaining compatibility with your styles is very important to me. I also invite you to discuss and review in pull requests :) Cheers!...

Not seeing any issues with my scripts, if I find any issues I'll sort them out on the userscript's end. I totally agree with what the others said, don't feel like you need to hold yourself back for us!
