OpenSCAD is great for programmers because you write code to generate 3D objects. If you love Python there are ways to write Python that then generates OpenSCAD code, so that may be worth looking into.

rasterweb, to ArtemisApp in Artemis app broken - is the project still alive?
rasterweb avatar

My iOS app won't work anymore but I'm trying to be patient and understand that it's an open source project led by one person so there may be delays or issues that prevent progress or even things running smoothly. Hopefully it will return and improve with time.

Well, I hate Microsoft but yay for business in our state I guess?

rasterweb, to 3dprinting in Why am I having to level my Ender 3 s1 after every print?
rasterweb avatar

That's really strange. I run 6 Ender-3 S1 printers at work and tend to only level them if there is an issue or we change build plates... maybe once a month at most, and we print a lot. I did go through the process of leveling with the knobs and sliding a piece of paper under the nozzle to get it just right, but when they print well, all is good.

"That’s only economical if your time is worth nothing." Well, we should all be able to live lives where we can pursue things that do not have monetary rewards. Obviously not everyone is in that position but perhaps for David Florian exploring and learning and trying things is what makes him happy. Of course for him it probably makes money as well, even if indirectly. The fact that his video got shared means more people will see it, and more views means more money, so there's the value for David Florian. It's also worth considering that in science, it's all about trying things and gathering information that will hopefully lead to new (and hopefully lower cost) capabilities.

I have a Prusa MINI and used Prusa i3 machines where I used to work. They are pretty solid, and I do like their open source ideals quite a bit. But I needed/wanted a larger print area for a price under $1,000 USD and the Bambu fit the bill.

I mostly print PLA so the lid is propped open and the door is ajar... Once winter comes to the midwest and my basement is freezing cold I may have to adjust things a bit. I added a Prusa MINI in January 2022 and could not print properly until I added an enclosure.

I've had one for about a month, and I've been printing nearly non-stop with it. If you just want a printer that works out of the box, prints fast, and prints really nice... It's a great machine. I've owned and operated a lot of printers (at work, at home, at school, at a makerspace) over the last 12 years, and I'm not a fan of the cloud or proprietary hardware but, damn... this thing prints really, really nice... and fast.

I've been blogging since 1997 and prefer to write things on my own site, but yeah, the sort of "rule" on Reddit was to not link to your own blog. I disabled Google Analytics this year, and it should also be free of any ads, so I feel okay about linking to my own (long) posts about stuff, complete with plenty of photos and the occasional video, but I'm still not sure if that is frowned upon as "self promotion" even on the Fediverse...

Very cool! Adafruit posted a foot pedal project that had a potentiometer but I definitely like to see other options.

I installed GarlicOS on the Anberic RG35XX and it's pretty much built-in. (It's using fake-08 to run things as there is not an official PICO-8 engine for the processor used in the RG35XX.)

rasterweb, to firefox in Can I get firefox to act as two separate browsers?
rasterweb avatar

I actually run Firefox for all my normal stuff and have a copy of Firefox Developer Edition I use for streaming music and videos so I can keep my "work" and "media" totally separate.

Looked them up and "Physna is a geometric search engine designed to increase efficiency with CAD design and manufacturing" so yeah, I don't think they come from the 3D printing community and personally I think I'll choose to not support them.
