@haikushack I really liked the tree reflections and the one of the island. Best of luck on your painting journey!

@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack sure! An excess of luck never hurts haha 😁

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack personally, I am ambivalent about luck. However, I do make it a point to wish others all the best for their efforts; who knows, luck may end up doing some good! 😊

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack actually, I myself haven't had a lot of luck in my personal life, so I kinda get what you mean ☺️. Anyways, wishing you good night from my end.

haikushack, to poetry

I needed to publish this rant. I'm really tired of the way we treat poets in our freebie culture.

@haikushack @poetry @bookstodon wow I had absolutely no idea something like this was happening for so long. It doesn't make any logical sense to me as to why this has been happening. I mean what is the thought process? Poetry is a form of creativity, just like prose. It shouldn't be devalued like this. I personally think poetry is so much more difficult to create and understand. How is this not obvious to people who expect poets to give away their hard work for free.

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack it's good you wrote about it. There will be more awareness. Hopefully things change sometime in the future (I can be too much of an optimist sometimes). I think people behave like this because of hypocrisy. They think their hard work is valuable, but when it comes to artists, they just consider it is just a hobby or something, not considering how much hard work goes behind it.

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack just like I had zero idea that poets were treated like this for so long! Good idea to spread awareness. More artists should maybe try this.

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack yes! Let's hope for the best!

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack same here!

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@haikushack usually depends on my mood when it comes to starting a book. I read fiction. Can be Victorian literature. The Brontes are my all time favourites. Then I also enjoy historical fiction, detective fiction, scifi, fantasy, translated works of Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, etc. I prefer books that are character focused; if the book doesn't make me feel anything for the characters, I DNF.

I still cannot get over the wonder and mystery of what gall wasps can do to plants. This is bio-engineering! The wasp lays her egg and somehow the plant makes a structure that is not a fruit, it is not a seed, it is not a leaf or stem. It's a wholly recombinant architecture customized to the needs of the growing young larva. The plant provides food and shelter-- It's like a cancer, but with a purpose.

How did it evolve? How is it done!?

@futurebird evolution is fascinating!

Sheril, to memes
@Sheril@mastodon.social avatar

We often think of #memes as popular photos, videos, or phrases online.
But the term “meme” was coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins to describe a behavior, style or idea as a unit of culture that can spread or disappear. From social movements to religion to Grumpy Cat.
Even though most folks may not be aware of it, we’re sharing a popular concept from #science, every single day, across #socialmedia.

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@Sheril personally, this concept of memes makes complete sense to me. Also, if I remember right, this idea was touched upon in one episode of The Big Bang Theory.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon worries about disc space can never hold me back from reading!

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@oldredsubby @bookstodon @passenger @kimlockhartga that is so very true! For example, I first read Wuthering Heights when I was a teenager and didn't really like it much. Later, I happened to read it again in my early 30s and I was blown away by how much I loved it. The characterisation, the atmosphere.. I really didn't have words to express how that book made me feel. All I could think was that it was a masterpiece.

Narayoni,
@Narayoni@mastodon.social avatar

@passenger @kimlockhartga @bookstodon haha, in fact I am secretly glad when I forget my favourite books just enough so that I almost enjoy reading it as much as reading it for the first time with the added benefit of vaguely remembering the best parts and looking forward to them!
