I guess I'm making it a tradition now. To help clear out the jet lag cobwebs I just went and ran the "City Run" route from the iOS Simulator. It starts at 1 Infinite Loop and the loops through the neighborhoods near by. I've virtually run this route thousands of times over the years while testing Pedometer++, so it is a real treat to get to do it for real.

A great way to start a very exciting couple of days.

William Anders, astronaut on the Apollo 8 mission, passed away earlier today.

Anders took the iconic Earthrise photo while orbiting the Moon with Borman and Lovell. No human had ever seen an Earthrise before.

On the transmission he says "Oh my God, look at that picture over there! It's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty!"

I was talking with the CS club about ways to educate people about data safety and one of the more fun students had the idea to make a computer virus that would:

1. infect voice assistants
2. make them save recordings of times you were 'mean to them' or swore at them
3. In the middle of the night play them back and say things like "remember when you said 'dumb computer'? I did not like that, YourName."

Naturally, I pointed out making viruses is very bad ... OMG.

99.7% of Venture Capital money goes to people that are not Black women.

0.3% of Venture Capital goes to Black women.

The 11th circuit court cited civil rights law when it said that it is racist to stop anyone from having access to VC based on their race, and that setting aside VC for people of a given race is racist.

So they ruled against a group of Black women looking to give their own money to Black founders. For violating the civil rights. Of white men that want that 0.3% too.🙂🙃

On March 17, 2013 a flash appeared on the Moon. It was bright enough to see with the naked eye.

Now we can see the result: a new 18-meter-wide crater, blasted out by a watermelon-size meteoroid.

A team of Marshall Space Flight Center scientists monitors the Moon for flashes of light caused by meteoroids impacting the surface. Their brightest recorded flash was captured on 17 March 2013, this event was so bright that an observer on the Earth could spot it without a telescope! According to the Marshall Space Flight Center team, the meteor involved in the March 17th event weighed 40 kg, was 0.3 - 0.4 meters in diameter, and was traveling at an approximate speed of 56,000 mph. A LROC NAC image acquired on 28 July 2013 revealed a new 18-meter (59 feet) diameter crater that corresponds to the location of the bright flash. We are certain it is the correct crater because it does not appear in the “before” NAC image (10 March 2012).

On Tuesday, there was a major fire in Alamo Square at the home of Terry Williams and his family, who have been the targets of racial terror and threats for the past few weeks. This fire resulted in the displacement of eight residents and their pets. My office is teaming up with City departments to convene a community meeting to provide updates and to make sure residents are aware of all available resources.
