So, here is what I'm trying to do to .

  1. Servicing the issue queue for ActivityPub and Activity Stream 2.0 on GitHub on a weekly basis.

  2. Documenting patterns in the Activity Streams 2.0 primer, and hopefully doing the same for ActivityPub.

  3. Sharing architectural essays on my blog. I've got two lined up: end-to-end encryption and account portability.

Automattic’s plugin drops auto-sharing of your posts to Twitter because of Twitter’s changes to their API and pricing.

I like Mastodon, so it's still my preferred Twitter alternative. However, this interview with the Bluesky CEO Jay Graber made some interesting points about the differentiation. The first two points — "account portability, global discoverability" — are both personally important to me. Dare I mention the missing global search feature in Mastodon?! When people say the “metaverse” is just marketing.. or the think of it as VR goggles or Meta’s legless people… I ask them: have you ever gone inside of ?

But, they say, “isn’t that just a game for little kids?”

And again I ask “have you ever gone inside of Roblox?”

Roblox is not “a” game… it is millions of “experiences”, some of which are games, but some are not. (Perhaps I need to stream some to Twitch, just to show them..)

@whknott @Techmeme - Completely agree! And add in all that is happening in Fortnite with the millions of people there. "Immersive experiences" are already here... and don't necessarily require VR goggles!

I mean... VR/AR may ultimately add to the experience, but the foundations for "metaverse" are already out there now - but many people don't realize that.

(In full disclosure, I was also a Second Life user for a good while, too, and I realize that space is still around and active, too.)

A question we all must ask ourselves:

  • what % of our time is spent building people up? Supporting them? Listening to and welcoming their ideas?

  • versus what % of our time is spent tearing people down? Criticizing them? Cutting them down? Dismissing their ideas and words?

Our time overall, and also in each and every relationship and connection we have.

The balance between those determines the type of world we want to live in and create around us, and also the quality of our connections.

LAUNCH DAY 🧵! 🚀 This morning I'll be right there with so many other fans watching what happens in Texas with the launch of SpaceX's - the largest rocket ever built.

Current news from SpaceX is launch target of 8:20 CDT (UTC-5), which is about an hour from now.

They say a livestream will start "45 minutes before" launch.

Will it launch successfully? Will it reach orbit? Will it blow up?

My own interest in the launch is partly just a lifelong fascination with and rockets 🚀 ... but it's also because is planning to use Starship to launch their "Gen2" satellites up into orbit.

These are larger satellites with more capacity and more capabilities. They'll be able to provide even more once in orbit.

However, they are too large to fly on the Falcon 9 rocket.

They have to fly on Starship. So... SpaceX needs this all to work.

Now, what did was create a smaller version of the "Gen 2" satellites that in some places were being called "v2 mini" satellites.

These smaller versions CAN launch on the Falcon 9 - and that's what SpaceX has been launching recently.

But... what I understand from articles is that they really want to launch the full Gen2 sats... and for that they need

So... today could be a big day for future , if it all works!

We may know in about an hour!

And... NO LAUNCH today! 🚀🙁

Some issue with pressurization has caused them to scrub the launch. They will treat today as a "wet dress rehearsal".

They will apparently try to launch again later this week. The folks on the live stream just said that it will be a minimum of 48 hours before they can launch again.

And now we all learn the term "Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly" (RUD)!

It seemed that the stages did not separate and then it exploded.

Congrats to the team for the successful initial launch! That was certainly dramatic to see!
