James Webb telescope makes 'JuMBO' discovery of planet-like objects in Orion
Jupiter-sized "planets" free-floating in space, unconnected to any star, have been spotted by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
What's intriguing about the discovery is that these objects appear to be moving in pairs. Astronomers are currently struggling to explain them.
The telescope observed about 40 pairs in a fabulously detailed new survey of the famous Orion Nebula.
“DPD told Sky News that the customer service chatbot had suffered from an "error" after a system update and it has now been disabled.”
Fuck away off. As I’m sure the chatbot would say. System update my arse. Normal LLM behaviour more like. Employ humans you cowards. Pay them properly. Charge customers more and build a good delivery service. 🤷🏻♂️
Wow. People who were camping waiting for the new volcano to erupt were able to capture one of the fissures opening. Remarkable. I’ve wanted to see how this happens for years. Now we have video 🥰

“This was at the same time that 81-year-old former subpostmaster Francis Duff finally received £330,000 compensation for having lost everything during the scandal – only for the official receiver (part of the Department for Business) to immediately claw back £322,000 of it to cover bankruptcy and owed income tax. He couldn’t afford to heat his home last winter”

Here’s a live web cam from Dawlish in Devon. Storm Ciarán is whipping up the English Channel. Apparently a 100 mph wind gust was recorded in The Channel Islands.
Treat anyone who claims to speak for most people in any group with suspicion. Occasionally, someone doing this might have the evidence and support to back it up (a union leader after a comprehensive strike vote, for example), but it'll be rare.
The latest eruption in Iceland stopped a few days ago after 54 days of activity.
However, land rise due to magma inflow underground of the Reykjanes Peninsula continues, and experts expect a new eruption soon. As they predicted, when the first eruption occurred on the peninsula a few years ago, this activity could continue for decades.
Google Bard now supports image upload and can describe the images. The Alt text in the attached was generated from Google Bard via a “describe this image" tab. Of course, the stuff about what French toast and Coca-Cola are I'd remove from the description for real-world use. And fix the errors - white tablecloth is wrong.
I don’t really see any value from Threads or Bluesky.
Unless there is a significant change all my social media activity will be Mastodon (my primary replacement for Twitter) and Instagram for visual stuff and new music discovery.
