"i know there’s a ton of skepticism about meta entering the fediverse — it’s completely understandable. i do want to kind of make a plea that i think everyone on the team has really good intentions. we really want to be a good member of the community and give people the ability to experience what the fediverse is."
i just really wanted fediforum peeps to know about FediPact since it seems like that's mentioned so much less when talking of meta's threads these days
there used to be whole articles about it, now "skepticism about threads joining the fediverse" is only ever mentioned in passing
it's almost like the uncomfortable contributions of marginalized women get swept aside and ignored consistently in life lol
REMEMBER: it's NEVER too late to sign the FediPact!!!
with the nefarious behemoth known as "threads" looming over the horizon, threatening to encroach upon our homes more and more each day, ask YOUR instance admin about signing the pact and committing to defederating it today!!!!!
@FediPact these people have likely not experienced the old days of geocities and MySpace. I think I still have some of their sites seared into my retina.
@FediPact You would be more than welcome. We want FediForum to be a place where a variety of opinions can be (respectully) aired and discussed and mutually understood. Would make a great session.
honestly it warms my heart and makes me really happy to see large swaths of the fediverse coming together to defend our communities against the evil megacorporation known as meta
if this is the pre-threads fedi's last hurrah... it's been an honor to spend so many years cultivating this beautiful community with y'all
So, back when Gab and them showed up, the Fediverse basically split in half.
None of us hear about or talk about it any more, but somewhere out there, is a whole 'nother Fediverse, all nazis and Trump-lovers talking to each other about loving nazis and Trump.
I expect the same is just gonna happen again.
Which is fine. I frankly think the 'Verse is getting too big now, anyway.
@ErictheCerise@vantablack
Yes, the fediverse ideal will survive, and that part of the fedi which sustains it will be different from what it is now. Look at it as an opportunity to unload the megaservers and techbros!
What if the real #Fedipact was that the whole #Fediverse exclusively set AOL.com as their homepage and used AOL for all their web searches from now until 1st January 2024 to really confuse #AOL employees when they returned back to work. They'd think it was 2001 again.
Mastodon is become more a brand than a software. If one searches 'mastodon' one gets a bunch articles that pretty much treat M'don as a brand with scant lip service to Fediverse, and links to a couple of the biggest M'don instances that happen to be melding with Threats.
If a #NewYearsResolution is your thing, set out to say and write 'fediverse' — proudly and deliberately.
If I have to debunk the "There's no point #fediPact-ing Meta because they'll just scrape what's public" argument one more time I might have to pull out my own eyes.
Beyond the technicalities, or law, there is value in challenging what is wrong even if assholes will still try to do it. There is value in people expressing concerns and working together as a group to address them. There is value in showing those who didn't speak up or act because they thought they'd be alone that they are not.
Squeaky.social does not federate with companies such as Meta. We will continue to support a free and transparent network safe from the aggressive and deceptive practices that these organizations use.
“I believe that Facebook represents one of the gravest threats to democracies around the world, and I am amazed that we have allowed our freedoms to be taken away by technology companies’ greed for growth and revenues.”

#Fedipact - The instances blocking Zuckerberg's Threads.net
Hi @onepict did you ever find a decent Pixelfed instance that was part of the #FediPact? I'll probably settle on one to switch to this week, as I had some options but didn't want to finalise without checking if I'd missed some info haha!
#fedipact Says it will block #Meta#Threads https://fedipact.online/
People fear that it will "split" the Fediverse.
But it will only do what a net does, nodes and subgroups not being connected to everyone else on the net.
That already happens by usual blocking.
I think I would look at what comes from threads but I understand everyone that will block.
Abbiamo già forkato Mastodon [3] e siamo sempre pront* a nuove sperimentazioni.
Crediamo nel fediverso. Invitiamo tuttə a bloccare Threads [4].
Questa è il miglior messaggio che possiamo dare a chi vuole distruggere quello che stiamo costruendo assieme
