chfkch, Somehow i wish @frameworkcomputer would create a mobile phone with full mainline Linux support like the #Librem5 aims to.
Like with current hardware.
They should also would fund development of the ecosystem (OS/apps/etc.).
We need a second player in the market and i think #FrameWork has a better network and reputation than purism.#Pine64 is not it, because they release and forget about their products, sadly.
pocketvj, @delta
any plans to make deltachat usable in #linuxmobile ?[if you need an alpha tester, here i am..]
linmob, @pocketvj It won't need all of KDE, see https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=libdeltachat-git @Lioh @linuxphoneapps @delta

ah, thanks for the receipe !regarding scaling: the whole ui refreshment is kind of broken...
phosh, There's finally a mobile data quick setting in Phosh (will be part of 0.40.0). Not everybody needs it so you can enable/disable it via Mobile Settings:
Short video explaininig how to enable mobile data in Phosh (the video has subtitles)
flypig, #SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 246. Finally the Firefox yields its rendering riches! Some fantastic illustrations to accompany the words today, to celebrate the fact offscreen rendering is finally working. With thanks to thigg for the images and thanks to #gecko for finally doing what you're supposed to!

chfkch, My fellow fedizens, i have done it.
I have applied #BitRitter to https://nlnet.nl/propose/ in the category "Open Call". Well at least 2 features i want to implement.
Wish me luck.If you have an awesome Mobile FOSS Project, maybe you want to apply too? Deadline is 2024-06-01 so this friday. Application process took me about half an hour, so that's doable.
NGIZero, @chfkch That is great to hear! And happy to learn that the application process did not take you a lot of time. That is precisely what we hope: not to waste anyone's time.
spv, i've started keeping notes on the #pinephone pro.
overall quite happy with this janky mess
erebion, I don't think I've ever compiled the kernel as often on a single day as I have today, but my Mobian port to the Pixel 3a / 3a XL is making progress.
My device-specific kerrnel repo is working, though I still need to find the right place for some kernel config stuff. if compiled as is, touch won't work. But I can manually copy the ".config" from pmOS to the repo and do "make olddefconfig" and then everything works nicely.
flypig, #SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 244. Comparing the OnFirstPaint()/patch 0044 differences to better understand how TransactionIds are handled and ultimately bring the changes into line for ESR 91.
crft, How do you press Esc with the softkeyboard (in vi) on #PostmarketOS?
linmob, @crft That depends on the UI. On Phosh (with the default squeekboard keyboard), hit the >_ key (if you don't see it, make sure to switch to Terminal layout by hitting the globe key) and find in the bottom left. On other UIs, things are different.
phosh, Want to configure which hardware buttons unblank the screen of your 📱 with #phosh? Here's how (and submitting your changes upstream will fix it for others too): https://phosh.mobi/posts/wakeup-keys/
postmarketOS, It's been a while since we gave an update on the #postmarketOS #systemd integration, so here's an update post (and instructions on how to get involved).

semiprime, I've just released v0.3.3 of Pygenda - my WIP #Psion-inspired agenda app for keyboard-equipped mobile linux devices. Main change is to move to more modern packaging, which should mean less fiddly installation & less work for me. So in theory a good time to try it out.
Source/docs: https://github.com/semiprime/pygenda
Video I always share of Pygenda on a #GeminiPDA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvQqFmlZ6nM
Devices it should fit: #PinePhone+keyboard, #GPD, #pro1x #EeePC, #n900, #Zaurus, #CosmoCommunicator
Linux, The new Linux phone from Jolla & its benefits? ⛵ :linux:
◉Sailfish OS - the only independent commercial mobile OS
◉Sailfish is NOT 100% closed source - Jolla plans to open the remaining blobs
◉More "Linuxy" than Android; Qt / Wayland / filesystem
◉Free of Google / Apple
◉Use Android compatibility in case an :android: app is needed
◉Jolla is a Finnish company - 🇫🇮 / 🇮🇸 are considered most trustworthy nations in Europe►https://shop.jolla.com/details/91eb91d3-c3de-41d0-b3c0-7075a339112d/
pavel, @Linux Nothing is 100% closed source these days. And Jolla was more closed-source than just the blobs. Try not to mislead people.
Linux, Just like you said: "Was". And Jolla has plans to open yet more.
Even Canonical's Launchpad was not open originally... :thinkhappy:
flypig, #SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 243. Patchy patches lead to an investigation of the code as prep for manual patching.
bhyoram,
AlexxandroiD, French Hello.
Is someone has problem with #oneplus6t on #postmarketos and #phosh ?
I do an update 15 days ago and reboot. And since, the device boot to gdm. When i enter my pin code, i have black screen and retour to gdm.
Today i turnon the phone and it is same. I have acces to ssh and i do and update of the system. I reboot again but i can't to login to my phone 😥
#linuxphone #linux #phonelinux #mobilelinux #pmos
agx, @AlexxandroiD Did you switch away from tinydm? tinydm's log are at ~/.local/state}/tinydm.log (see https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Display_manager) but no idea where gdm logs are on pmOS (no
journalctl
). Finding and inspectiong the log will likely tell more why the session fails.
flypig, #SailfishOS #Gecko dev diary Day 241. Applying ESR 78 patches , to revert upstream patches, with partial success.
deltatouch, The last major release before development will concentrate on Webxdc is almost ready. If you want to help with testing, then
🔹 backup your accounts
🔸 grab the pre-release 1.4.1-pre11 click package matching your UT version and arch from here (IMPORTANT: don't install the focal version if you have xenial and vice versa!): https://codeberg.org/lk108/deltatouch/releases
🔹 let me know if you find any bugs, strange UI etc.See here for what to expect of this release: https://codeberg.org/lk108/deltatouch/src/branch/main/CHANGELOG
hamblingreen, Announcing the release of #fbp and #f_scripts 0.6! This marks the first #framebufferphone releases in almost 2 years, and I'm so proud of the amount of learning that went into these releases. I'm picking up where Miles Alan left off in order to create the ultimate framebuffer-based UI for #MobileLinux. Packaging should be making its way into #pmOS/#Alpinelinux soon (tm), and I've created a PR to get this UI option merged into #Danctnix Arch ARM.
hamblingreen, New #fbp features include but are not limited to:
- Migrated codebase from Zig 0.9.1 to 0.12
- Switched from freetype to stb_truetype (Thanks to a fantastic contribution!)
- Touch drag gestures
- Keyboard colors now configurable
Likewise for #f_scripts:
- f_*: update device specific logic
- f_youtube: migrate from youtube-dl to yt-dlp
- f_phone: migrate from pinephone-call-audio to callaudiod
- f_audio: switch to pulseaudio
Shamelessly copied from git changelogs. Sue me.
Linux, :linux: Jolla | Makers of truly competitive Linux for mobile - NEW PHONE COMING! 🤳
◉Jolla is a small but spicy company on a field of relentless competition
◉Due this - Sailfish OS moves to a subscription model (but it's just 5€ / month)
◉New budget phone comes with 2 ARM Cortex-A75 CPU / 6 Cortex-A55 cores
◉8GB of RAM / 128gt space / 4,000 mAh bat
◉Pre order for €299 (incl. a 1-yr sub) & Jolla takes €50 deposit
Tekchip, @linmob @Linux @sailfishosnews that's the most hilarious take. Meanwhile in reality companies have to extend free updates further and further out to keep devices alive and usable.
So they want you to believe that money gating updates is some solution? Have subscription fees ever stayed the same or gone down? Nah they'll hike it until it's untenable. As soon as someone can't afford to pay their device is either abandoned or becomes security swiss cheese. Neither result is good.
linmob, @Tekchip Most companies make their money by selling devices, Jolla do not (well, mostly, but I don't think the 1000 devices "Jolla C2" do count, even comparing to PinePhone or Librem 5). To make long term updates viable, you need some longer term revenue; and if you don't gather that by selling services (usually subscriptions) or do affiliate crap or data mining, how do you do that?
Just let them try this, it might well fail, but from a "how to finance maintenance" viewpoint, it makes sense.
rmader, #postmarketOS just landed the last MR needed to make the #libcamera + #PipeWire camera stack work on the #Librem5 and #PinePhone by default, using the new software ISP shipped in libcamera 0.3.
So if you have such a device: just update and go install apps like Snapshot, Warp, Decoder etc. You can even use it with Firefox and - very soon - Chromium.Note that this does not replace #megapixels or #millipixels - those continue to be the default camera apps.
rmader, Don't expect too much for now: both image quality and performance are not quite where we want them to be.
That, however, also means that there are a lot of low hanging fruits where help is very welcome :)
We need to create #libcamera tuning files for the individual cameras, the swISP could be improved to use the GPU for debayering, there are WIP autofocus patches that could be tried and improved - and in Snapshot we need to reduce the number of copies before frames reach the screen or encoders.
rmader, Note that with all of this in place, camera support on a lot of other devices is in close reach. For example the #OnePlus6 and #SHIFT6mq should only need kernel patches enabling the camera sensors. The softwareISP should then - at least in theory - "just work". Well, fingers crossed :)
P.S.: the one device where this already worked is the #PinePhonePro - but until recently it broke audio. That was also fixed in the process.
peja, Wow! Mousai does a much better job than Shazam and other famous apps.
https://flathub.org/apps/io.github.seadve.Mousai
agx, Whenever I have to deal with #LinuxMobile on devices that formerly ran android I realize how super simple things like flashing and debugging are on the #Librem5 compared to that.
No odd partition schemes, no super sensitive boot loader that gives up on the first glitch. Just #uboot and if all else fails #jumpdrive.
argv_minus_one, Pine64 is under the thumb of the CCP, and allegedly binds all orders to the laws of Malaysia as well. nope.avi
That's the thing. There are several Linux phones, and pretty much all of them seem to have something seriously alarming or prohibitive about them or their vendor. For Purism, it's price. For Pine64, it's the aforementioned.
agx, @argv_minus_one I guess besides being lucky and getting a cheap used (or maybe never used because it didn't meet expectations) device there's little options atm. I hope prices go down as adoption grows.
