@HardBeingGreen@timrichards it’s been shocking for days but only appearing in any news last 24hrs. Air particulate quality is really high and extremely poor quality.
This morning I did my final bit of gardening before some predicted heavy rain comes later today (Let's hope the forecast is correct).
I have now planted out all my purchases from the garden show a couple of weeks ago. The big task this morning was repotting this gardenia which was quite root-bound. My husband helped and gave the roots a spray from the hose to loosen them. Silly me was dressed in clean clothes I use for work (we can wear jeans at work) and got mud sprayed on them.
I used a mix of two types of potting soils but we didn't mix them very well. I am hoping the promised down pour of rain will do some more mixing for us.
The pot we have planted it in is ugly. When we have finally decided how we want our backyard I will repot it into something nicer. #Melbourne#GardeningAU#OfficeKitty

Good idea. Also I wonder why stand-alone houses are being built right to the edge of lots; wouldn't it make more sense environmentally to build terrace housing?
Melbourne housing: Push to force developers to plant trees on new properties in outer suburbs

More gardening today, but this time in Mum's garden. I planted out 5 plants in a garden bed that had been reshaped by my brother while building a new path recently. The soil was hydrophobic due to the very poor rainfall in #Melbourne over the last couple of months.
I did my usual trick of digging a hole for the plant and first putting a lot of water in it. It is a similar technique to cooking where you make a well in the flour for the wet ingredients and gradually mix it into the dry ingredients. The roots of the new plant will feel the wet soil beneath it and so be encouraged to grow down further
Hopefully we will get a good dump of rain on Monday and Tuesday! #GardeningAU
I'm reviewing Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows again this year, and encountering once more a mildly frustrating thing... where the comedian, approached months ago for the blurb to attach to their show in the program, wrote something vague because they hadn't thought it through yet.
I'm likely to give such shows a miss. I mean there are hundreds of acts, you have to give me some reason to choose yours. Tell me what it's about, at least the theme, and be ready when the Comedy Festival people come asking for the program blurb.
I imagine regular comedy-goers have the same reservations, unless the comedian is a big name they're familiar with.
I’ve become a real fan of the Comedian’s Comedian Podcast (or #comcompod). It’s an interview show where working comics talk about comedy rather than do comedy, how they make the sausage. Anyway one of the many things I’ve learned is that they typically churn out the name of the show etc before they’ve written it. Seems to be one of those trade secrets.
@jastity Yeah I could imagine it's done that way, but it does make it harder to publicise their show via the festival program. They really should work out more details ahead of time.

Big day in the garden today - taking advantage of the glorious autumn day in #Melbourne.
We cut off a big non-fruit producing branch growing straight up on the left of the lime tree and then cut a big branch on the right to give the tree better balance.
I also upended 2 bags of heavy, wet soil on the bed to top it up and provide more substance to the very light sandy soil in this garden bed.
I planted an impatiens plant I had purchased at last week's garden show on the right of the lime tree. I then topped off this part of the garden bed with bamboo leaves from last Spring's prunings. I had laid the bamboo prunings on concrete so the leaves could dry off over summer and to stop the concrete from absorbing so much heat.
@MrAndrewD No there's a lot of real policy too. The council has been really dragging its feet on its promises to make the CBD more pedestrian-friendly.

Was our last night in #Naarm / #Melbourne, we went to the Basement Comedy Club and saw 9 comedians including Joel Creasey, David Correos, Arj Barker.
Impromptu show so was only $15 and the room was full but not uncomfortably.
The World Of The Book exhibition at the State Library of Victoria is marvellous and free. Not only is the location beautiful, the exhibition is well laid out, superbly curated and informative. #melbourne#library#exhibition@bookstodon#bookstodon#books

Channel 9 are a pack of fucking idiots. While reporting on an aviation incident where a person died, they engaged in reckless behaviour against aviation regulations that could have caused their own incident.
This morning, a man fell from a hot air balloon and died in a northern suburb of Melbourne.
It's a tragedy.
It's under investigation by experts.
It's the responsibility of the pilot in charge to enforce passenger safety processes, so it's natural to wonder how the catastrophe happened.
Beyond that, we should not speculate on what happened.
Approximately an hour after the balloon landed, the Channel 9 helicopter arrived at the balloon's landing zone, and circled there for over an hour. For most of this time, they were at an altitude of just over 1000 feet. That's the legal minimum altitude over unpopulated ground for General Aviation. Over populated ground, the legal minimum altitude is 2000 feet. The helicopter pilot then departed the area and flew north-west to land at the airport. But, for that leg of the trip, they flew at a dangerously low altitude over heavily populated suburbs of Brunswick and Coburg.
Channel 9 has a video on their website with a reporter in the street in Preston. They interviewed a neighbour who said he heard sirens. The rest of their video is shot with a long lens and shows an SES tent from a long distance. There's about 10 seconds of aerial video of a balloon gondola packing-up in Yarra Bend Park. That's all they got but they're milking it hard for the drama and clicks. Stupid ghouls.
This is absolutely pissweak reporting, like something from "Frontline".
