You lot are amazing. There was such a positive reaction to the tree sponsorship that I’ve rolled out hedgerow sponsorship too.
The farmers we work with are extremely excited to replace old nasty barbed wire fencing with wildlife corridors, and grants are hard to come by, but you can sponsor them by the meter.
May was the 28th month in a row to be the hottest on record.
Spring was also one of the 4 wettest on record, with ~50% more rain than an average spring.
Yesterday I joined @ScientistRebellion and other climate movements in Helsinki to remind our leaders that climate action and protection of nature must be the centre of EU policies.
May has been the warmest month recorded in Finland, extreme climate events are happening worldwide, sea is rising forcing people to leave their homes...
A progressive step towards a sustainable future from the Biden administration. Expanding tax credits beyond wind and solar opens new doors for renewable energy innovations.
Here's the before and after of the lying BCLNG sign. The new rhetoric is significantly less sure of its lies... but don't be fooled, if you go to their website, they still have the original lie "BCLNG WILL Reduce Global emissions” prominently displayed. So they're still liars, and I'll still call them so!
Was it all because of the brief (5hr) protest action?
Probably not... but it's a good thought :)
I am baffled that people actually still believe buying an EV will not have an immediate positive impact on their family's monthly budget. And yes, I know the initial cost is out of many people's range, but I also know for a great many, it is in their range. So lets talk operating cost:
Case in point: Our EV is at the doctor getting rear end surgery (due to no fault of ours or its, insurance covered, yay).
We received a courtesy car we nicknamed "The Beast". It's a Dodge Journey. I figure one trip to work and back (160km) would probably cost $50. I was forced to use it today so I took the time-hit and drove it to the Transit park-and-ride 35km away
instead.
It means leaving 15min early and getting home 45min later. But that's another topic...
What taking the bus does do immediately is saves me more than half the cost of fuel for The Beast.
A full 160km roundtrip in the EV is about $5 worth of electricity. $50 vs $5.
Fossil fuels? In this economy?
P.S. Oh ya, and you want to talk "range anxiety"? Not only is The Beast only good for around 200km on $50 of gas... that's almost half a tank! Which is not farm from the EV on "range". Sorry, I'll take the EV "anxiety" any day of the week!
En route to #Geneva to attend a #PhD jury at the Geneva #observatory, which is located near the French border outside Geneva.
Instead of renting a #car, as I used to do in the past, this time I’m renting… a bike to go from the station to my #hotel (about 16km away) and the diary to the observatory.
This is a neat trick: recycle steel and cement at the same time using renewable energy. The cement acts as slag on top of the molten steel to prevent it from reacting with oxygen in the air. The cement can then be reused. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cxee01m5yero

Cities’ power to take concrete #climateaction, as well as to put pressure on national governments in order they act as true #climate leaders is essential to build an equitable #fossilfuel free future. #climatechange
#ClimateDiary How to note Sunak’s election announcement here? Getting drenched in rain was symbolic & symptomatic; tragically a child died in a mudslide in Yorkshire the same day.
Will this election be decisive from a climate policy point of view? Labour will be better, but how much exactly who knows, given scrapped pledges. Of course i am hopeful for Green party gains. But actual positive excitement and energy, again rallying everyone to make this a #ClimateElection etc? sadly, no. #GE2024
Let's just imagine that we took the #ClimateAction or #VisionZero plans seriously, with the urgency to quit killing people for not driving (& killing plenty of drivers too), and some actual wish to survive as a species. NONE of the current plans are within 10x of doing it. You need a different strategy. Stop building for cars and just put the actual #StuffInTheStreet that you would 🚧 if you took the lack of network seriously & opened a city-wide project to fix it this year. #TacticalUrbanism
Database will be introduced & panelists from academic, research & municipal backgrounds will discuss the importance of #MunicipalClimateData & how this dataset can be used & further analyzed.
