So yesterday I finally got my A1500 Plus computer case for my build! Of course I had to put it together immediately. Haven't been this excited of something for a good while!

Too bad I can't just yet enjoy of the thing, I need to spend my time to other stuff in the nearest future, but it sure is nice to have it ready for use now.

Certainly not the cheapest way to do retro, I haven't kept a perfect track but total likely not that far off from 1000 €.

Good news everyone!

OS/1337 now finally boots to a [quite castrated] version of / in glorious 80x25.

Thanks a lot to @SweetAIBelle and also thanks to @landley for nudging me in the right directions...

Either way, I hope to longterm develop OS/1337 as a practical distro for lowest-end machines whilst still retaining features and keeping it smol.

And of course, being "self-hosting" or rather self-compiling and being a viable platform to develop not just for but on.

Like and aim to be.

In case you missed it, here's my opinion about the latest repositioning. I don't hold back, as I already got enough crap online and otherwise for publishing an earlier opinion on the technical side of things. So this is unfiltered.

I just picked up a 20 inch trinitron, and ordered a MiSTer FPGA as well. My goal is to have a massive and almost complete library served via network share directly to a near perfect FPGA copy of each console and displayed on a time appropriate display. Where the MiSTer has gaps, I fill in with real hardware.

leimon,

@soller I was looking closely at the MiSTer for a while, but what I determined I was most interested in was the platform along with the platform.

Since what I really want to do is develop new 8/16 bit games, I pre-ordered the latest Commander X16 dev board. I'm also planning to get mini and/or the .

@anniethebruce yeah...
Basically it's been turned into some commercial product.

Amd whilst they can't opensource or share the BASIC & KERNAL they could at least not go out of theor way to prevent others from iterating upon it and buy that ROM through them legitimately.

The / thus is more a toy for & fans that want something they can easily hook up to a modern TV.

THE in comparison looks like an open architecture.beyond the ability to make expansion cards.

OFC I don't expect those slots to be or something but something like the or -alike should be possible...

I mean if I had the €€€€€ and skills I'd likely try to build one of those myself for the , but even a simple card that can interface with some "" - adapter would be sufficient.

OFC they won't officially support due to and as well as the added complexity.

Personally, I would've scrapped the idea of making an HDMI-outputing "video card" to save costs and instead make a deal with some OEM to certify compatibility with an ->HDMI dongle which gets powered by the PS/2 port and have it / branded...

Cuz that'll be a cheap-to-make accessory just like - cords for 6th & 7th gen consoles were...
