As Baile Binnbhéarlach (“sweet-spoken Baile”), prince of , traveled alone to a trysting place, a maleficent told the prince—falsely—that his lover was dead, whereupon he died of grief at Baile’s Strand, a seashore near today’s Dundalk. The spiteful sprite then carried the same story (sadly true this time) to Ailinn, a princess, who also fell down dead of grief.

In the ballad of Thomas the Rhymer, Thomas encountered a woman so beautiful that he initially addressed her as the Queen of Heaven. However, she corrected him by identifying herself as the Queen of Elfland before taking Thomas away to her realm for seven years.

„One of the most famous stories of Úna, the queen of , tells how, annoyed by a drunken piper, she turned herself into a calf and, with the piper clinging to her back, made a massive leap to the shores of the Shannon River. When the piper appeared undismayed by his calf-assisted flight, Úna forgave him his bad piping and returned him to the place from which she had stolen him.“

On the Shetland and Orkney Islands, trows represent the most common kind of #fairy. The trows did not like sunlight and so were nocturnal creatures. Unlike trolls, trows were not typically turned to stone by sunlight but were merely paralyzed, to return to life at nightfall.
Trows were found in two varieties. The sea trow lived beneath the waves, while the land trows could be giants or human-sized gray-coated fairies. If you met one on the road, he walked backward rather than toward you. Seeing one was unlucky, but overhearing them talking to each other brought good luck.

A trow (also trowe or drow or dtrow) is a malignant or mischievous fairy or spirit in the folkloric traditions of the Orkney & Shetland islands. Trows are generally inclined to be short of stature, ugly, shy in nature & nocturnal.

It's #smallbusinesssaturday and I'm so grateful for all the nice comments/shares my #jewelry (and cats!) have received so far on Mastodon!

It's given me motivation to start #wirewrapping again this summer.

While fun to make, they're time-consuming/get no views on Etsy.

But TWO sold this week! Might be coincidence but I'll happily take it.. So thanks everyone for kicking me out of the depression-hole.

(This is an old project I liked that sold)
