@Wraithkal gave my work a lovely shout-out on his indie gaming site (https://www.wraithkal.com/screenshotsaturday-mastodon-musings-may-11-2024/), but I had neglected to include the title in my screenshot post.
Thus, I thought I would share the revised title screen for the Taiyaki Fabulous Museum of Fish (which now fits #GBDev tile requirements better) and a full view of the WIP beginning environment.
As always, you can also see my #Pixel_Dailies entry for today's theme, #crow.
The PS3 was a fairly divisive console. Some people loved it, while many thought it wasn't great. But you know how we think of it, yet another way to play Game Boy games! Learn how in our latest article:
Here is a look at the fights in Cappimon, an RPG/Platformer hybrid for the GBC. You don't harm any Cappimon during these battles. Instead, you fight their master while avoiding Cappimon attacks. My intention is to create a system of battling that mixes the traditional RPG fight with something like Undertales more action oriented fights (but with platforming).
Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge 2 is out now! Eat what Lee eats, sleep where Lee sleeps, golf where Lee golfs in this Point & Click Adventure for the #gameboy and #gameboycolor
GB Studio 3.2 is out, and among the numerous new features is the ability to include Slopes in your platformer game! Read about how this initiative came to be, and how to use it.
Here is a plethora of screens of MtM:Cryptsmasher running on fake real hardware :) It's as close to authentic as I can get it, Game Boy fans zoom in (trust me!)
I'm having fun experimenting with shadows on such a dark display, and I now consider this also my film noire debut ;)
I have come to request recommendations for #pico8#tic80 and #gbstudio / modern ROMs!
Anything that surprised or impressed you -- I've been really really impressed with the handful of things I've played recently, and want to get deeper into this retro nouveau style of gaming!
I know there's lots of retro-style indie games on PC etc, but I'm hungry for fantasy consoles and GB homebrew
My own recommendations for stuff that was fun and / or surprised me:
Gameboy:
The Machine (Jeltron)
Feed IT Souls (GrumpyFunction)
My Friendly Little Island (PlayInstinct)
He Fucked the Girl out of Me (Taylor McCue)
PICO-8:
The Shadow King / Cosmic Collapse / Hellgineers (Johan Peitz)
Original Celeste (the obvious entrypoint)
Beckon the Hellspawn (LokiStriker)
Here are some early shots (please excuse the potato quality, I'll get you the good stuff later) of MtM: Cryptsmasher. I've been playing with the look and I'm getting more and more happy with it!
👏🏻😁 What do you think?
I've been dabbling with GB Studio for making Game Boy Color games, and decided to futz around with a reimagining of Adventure (1980, Atari 2600). I FINALLY understand why the maze in that game never made sense to me. The entrance and exit points to each screen warp around, and are not laid out in a cartesian grid when you move East/West. Granted, the last time I played Adventure I was 8, but still... happy to get closure on that mystery.
We had the opportunity to speak with @nekobungi, a manga artist who recently released the emotional and beautiful Neko Can Dream in English! We got to talk about telling queer stories in both manga and video game format, and addressing contemporary themes through retro limitations!
