As far I know #gnome does not run (well or at all) on #bsd OSes. Which desktop do you suggest for a "gnome addicted" dude like me (who used Gnome since release 0.x)?
I'm pretty sure @freezr will have precious suggestions 😀
@gnome Software is one of the best #Linux software centers in terms of UI and features. It has the option to choose package format, view app screenshots, description, ratings, download size, permissions, whether the app is open source or not and many more. The only drawback is the long (re)loading time which can be quite annoying sometimes. #gnome#gnomesoftware#softwarecenter#foss#OpenSource#fosserytech
I haven't used my USB GPS dongle in over 15 years. It was state-of-the-art and still took at least a solid minute to get a fix; I think unless today GPSD/geoclue can use Internet for AGPS to get a faster GPS fix, it'd be similar? My smartphone takes 1-2min if you use only GPS.
Unsure if geoclue fully leverages GPSD for #GNOME#Maps now.
I installed #Fedora because I use my #Linux laptop only for short periods of time outside of vacation and the one thing I noticed is that #Gnome Shell crashes far more often than when I had #Arch
Giving pano (clipboard manager for #gnome) a 2nd chance. It might be an over-kill, but I like it for now. On Gnome 33 it "reliably" blocked the desktop on copy... but hopefully problems have been sorted out.
wanted to contribute some translation to snapshot using #gnome own platform but doing this i found out the language team coordinator is inactive and the other main contributor is inactive as well, and since all translation to project require manual approval from the lang team coordinator all my contributions are halted until a new coordinator is either found or becomes one
fuck gnome devs, cant have shit that works for contributors
Steam will soon use the desktop portal file picker.
In practice, it means Steam will use your native desktop method for selecting and saving files, resulting in better user experience and desktop integration.
This is one of many things Flatpak and GNOME pioneered that improves the Linux desktop for everyone.
@thelinuxEXP@opensuse I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed with the #gnome desktop environment on my main machine a couple of days ago, due to some people recommending it to me on a post I made. It has been a pretty amazing experience so far, specially since I started out with #archlinux and was used to reinstall my system a few times a year. Even on my machine, that is supposed to run Windows, it has been working very well, battery life is a little better than Arch or other distros, and a few bugs it had with the likes of Manjaro and others are either absent or less of an headache. :meowaww:
Real talk, scrolling tiling window managers are dope. I'm six months in using #PaperWM and I can't imagine going back to a non-scrolling window manager.
Even if you dislike #GNOME I think conceptually it's such good way keep your focus on the keyboard and away from fidgeting with window layout.
All the keybinds I needed to feel more productive: focus window left, focus window right, workspace up, workspace down, toggle window size, collect window.
Is this #Hyprland ? #KDE ? Both? Neither? I'm lost for words..
This happens when choosing "Plasma (Wayland)" in SDDM and it just shows a black screen so I move into tty1 and launch hyprland. I'll ask for help later, now I need to study...
After getting my second monitor, KDE Plasma was logging in to a black screen, forcing me to move to #GNOME, so far it's comfy with some extensions. I can not use #Hyprland properly on my second vertical monitor because it doesn't support the needed layouts1.
