Some men in Japan have found a new outlet for their misogyny: harassing groups that help women. Their number one target is the group Colabo, which helps displaced girls in Tokyo. Here's how the harassment campaign started (and how you can help Colabo fight back). #unseenjapan#japan#women
Live from Japan 🇯🇵
After a quick Korean BBQ yesterday, with the Team in #Japan, @jon's tour takes him to the Icelandic Embassy in Japan for a #pressconference!
I'm sad to see Kyocera leave the consumer smartphone market. There's a gap selling rugged phones to "everyday normal" folks.
In honor of them leaving, here's one of my all time favorite torture tests, raking the Brigadier screen with concrete 👀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxoz5_2pCXU
The #lighthouse at #inubo in #chiba#japan. I showed you the coastline and the little train, I figured you should see the touristy highlight as well. Taken during #gw#goldenweek
If you're ever in #Hokkaido, #Japan, make sure to visit the new National #Ainu Museum #Upopoy in Shiraoi! It's easy to get lost there for a whole day to learn, reminisce, experience, and change perspective. If you haven't heard about it's history before, Japan's northernmost island will not feel the same again.
A bicyling Joe Biden in #Delaware tells pool reporters the situation at the US-#Mexico border is “much better than you all expected.” Asked if he plans to visit the border: “Not in the near term no. It would just be disruptive.”
Biden adds he thinks he'll be meeting again Tuesday with Congressioinal leaders on the debt ceiling issue but his plan is still to attend the #G7 meeting in #Japan later this week.
If you're into #trains and more specifically from #japan, here is a remarkable specimen from #chiba. The #choshielectricrailway runs from the #jr station #choshi off onto the peninsula. There is no turnstile, no IC card reader - there are conductors on this train who will gladly take your cash in exchange for a stamped ticket. The charm of yesteryear!
Lucky me has a trip to #tokyo#japan lined up for late July. Looking for options to do some medium distance guided cycling. Many options to choose from online but they seem to be trips where you stop for an hour here and an hour there to visit things. Hoping to find something where I can cycle say up to 50km with a guide over the course of a day and stop for 10 minutes here and there. Definitely interested in locations off the beaten track. Boosts welcome! #cycling#tour
「 Line is much more than a simple messaging app, with various features including music streaming, news, and even securities investment. Over 70% of the Japanese population uses the app. Businesses and governments at all levels use it to communicate through custom interfaces; for example, Tokyo operated a discount scheme for people who could show proof of Covid-19 vaccination through Line 」

There's a category of things you cannot (competently) learn by only reading a book (or a website), or even watching a video. Some examples: rock climbing, beekeeping, gardening, woodworking, driving. No matter the sum of written knowledge or videos on these things... you have to roll up your sleeves and actually apply those skills to learn (and master) those things. #learning#knowledge
Hard on the heels of Kyōto's last cherry blossoms comes the ubiquitous azalea. Gaudy, dazzling and often over the top, it's one of my favourite flowers.
Known as 'tsutsuji' (躑躅/つつじ) in Japanese, azaleas were first cultivated in Japan in the Kamakura period (there are around 40 original varieties).
Their popularity really took off in Edo times, and the flowers can now be found growing in every corner of the city.
So we were staying in this ryokan, getting ready to go downstairs, for the owner of the ryokan to drive us to the snow monkeys (tourist attraction in yamanouchi). And then this thing in the corner of our room started ringing. Turns out it wasn't ghosts, it was just the owner of the hotel from the front desk calling us to tell us to get ready. #japan
thread of my #arcadeexploration posts, starting with my latest:
exploring the arcade in the 1978 movie 鬼畜 / Kichiku (The Demon)
each blog entry features an arcade in a movie (mostly from #japan) and tries to identify all of the machines.
This is an exceptionally difficult task because:
