Are there examples of getting pretty output from for custom assertions?

Projects like prove you can do a lot with phpunit’s output. I’m hoping it doesn’t take that much work to hook into correctly displaying information when an assertion fails, though.

So, two questions:

If I write a custom assertion, can I be creative with how failures display?

Can I hook into the built-in assertions and conditionally tweak their display?

Solid and creative examples welcome. :)

Anyone have an idea what is digging divots in our front lawn? These holes are everywhere. It looks like a dog did it, but it's only our front yard, no neighboring yards. Back yard is unaffected. The strip on the other side of the driveway is also untouched.

TIL that although it’s been around for at least 5 versions of , we can do this:

if (App::runningUnitTests()) {
 // Code to include in only tests
}

if (!App::runningUnitTests()) {
 // Code to exclude in tests
}

when running tests. Works in as well, of course.

Small question. Pest fails if there are fulltext migrations in the app. Using Scout with a laravel-scout-fulltext-engine (https://github.com/ivanomatteo/laravel-scout-fulltext-engine). Apart from manually commenting out fulltext(), is there a more elegant way to run the tests?

New plugin for to give you type coverage right in Pest. Simply composer require pestphp/pest-plugin-type-coverage —dev and then run Pest with pest —type-coverage -min=100 Perhaps you won’t need or anymore.

In Southeast when the Fireweed nears the end of the blooming cycle, we all know that means the end of summer is near. It seems a bit harsh but it is true. and today on my walk I saw something I have not seen before, some sort of black caterpillar munching down on the Fireweed specifically. The critter reminded me of a Tomato worm that I used to see in California as a kid. This guy has the same body shape, and a little red horn on his head, but was black.

This image shows better the bare stems of the Fireweed plant after the caterpillars have eaten all the green leaves away. The caterpillar was about an inch and a half long and has a red horn protruding from its head. This photo shows at least 3 of them working away.
This image is of the Fireweed plant at the end of its blooming cycle, only the top flowers are pink and blooming, below that the spent blooms are now forming into seed pods, which will ripen over the next few weeks and then burst into a airborne fuzz similar to how a dandelion flower spreads. The plant is at least 5-6 feet tall, the photo only captures the top 12-14 inches of the plant's blossom.

It is hard to believe: this half-timbered chapel on a hill between the Bergisch Gladbach districts of Sand and Herkenrath (near Cologne) was already standing in the 17th century. It is dedicated to St. Roch of Montpellier, who is considered the patron saint of plague sufferers, because at that time the plague was also prevalent in this area. A nobleman from the neighbourhood had therefore donated this chapel.
It is now obviously in great need of renovation.

Hello #PlantParents! My #Tradescantia has some kind of #Pest going on. I don't think #MealyBugs, as whatever they are are too tiny, and don't match in appearance to images I've seen.
They really are tiny bugs, less than 1mm. Light in colour, and have set up home on the leaves, close to the stem (is this the node??) There is a very fine web like structure, with white dust, but I don't think it's general dust - bigger, whiter particles than original household dust. Continued in reply toot...

Finally got around to writing more tests for . It's so satisfying when the GitHub actions run so many tests and just turns green.

To be fair, it didn't work right away. Which is good. I found some bugs this way that I didn't have on my machine, but could be a problem on the server.

It's so much easier to write tests for with . I should have adopted this much sooner.

I’m trying to run “Debug” (for step-debugging with ) in while running a test. I do this all the time with standard tests, and I’ve never had this problem…

The test runner stops immediately, and PhpStorm reports in the debug console, “Test framework quit unexpectedly.”

Has anyone else seen this error? Do you know what causes it?
