I had to buy #Pica a porcelain water fountain because she didn't like the plastic one. I change the charcoal filters every week.
NYC has some of the best tap water in the whole world. It's not just clean and healthy, it's really great tasting to those who care about such things. But it's not good enough for Pica who has informed me it's a shame her water fountain (which is on a timer to make it more interesting for her) is nice... but fails to chill the water.
They are like little sun sprites, motes of joy and determination made animate. I decorated their outworld like a magical desert. Here you see their annex nest (not their main home just an outpost) and the geode and branch they explore. I feed them on the jade dish, they neatly pile trash in the upper right corner for me to pick up. (Dorymyrmex bureni, the light brown cone ant)
(Bonus #pica who wonders when I’ll stop gushing about ants)
For Immediate Release: #Pica, the small tabby cat, categorically denies allegations that she “got so excited by the birds in the bird feeder that she bumped her head on the window” In fact it was her hapless human staff who were confused by the concept of transparency and who made the comical “bonk” noise recently heard in the south bronx apartment.
Pica sends her condolences to all hapless humans and hopes they will learn and grow. #caturday
why am i crying? Oh right. I was in an emotionally charged and social anxiety inducing situation with alcohol on an empty stomach after a fight or flight day at work followed by a fight with a partner Of course! Silly me. How could i forget
Happy #caturday from #pica She has asked that you send your offerings and praise for her as either bitcoin or in the form of cans of “extra gravy” wet food which you may drop off at your local Pica appreciation chapter, or mail to her P.O. box
There was a guy making custom keychains in Mott Haven and I knew exactly what to get for the spare key for the cat sitter. #pica#cats#catsofmastodon#caturday#kitty
Pica thinks that having tweed makes her “academic” please be on guard today for her typical online “university” scams. Remember that there is no such thing as a “BA in sleeping and relaxing” #catsofmastodon#pica#car#tweed#scams#caturday
I don't think we even have a real concept of just how deeply weird #cats really are. Strangest little creatures around. What even is this interaction??
I think the resting cat was expecting to be groomed. She looked so happy and trusting.
Pica had a brother, passed away at just 8 😔. He'd get in a mood sometimes, bite her on the neck. #Pica didn't mind that so much (they were both fixed & I tried to think about the Game of Thronesness it all)
Problem was he didn't know what was supposed to come next
He'd just stand there confused holding her neck. She'd be happy then slowly grow angry, aaand then she'd hiss at him & smack him in the face.
I think he decided "that must be what comes next" poor boy.
Mom got #Pica a Christmas gift, and I forgot it was in our unpacked bag. Pica could tell. She dug it out in the night and put little toothy holes all through the plastic.
I guess she really likes it!
She's been bringing me these stuffed mice all day to toss for her over and over. She's such a kitten. I feel like she has a million of these under the couch... but let's see how long these stay topside.
I’m reading “An Immense World” by Ed Yong and it’s excellent. He’s going on about how too much has been made of humans having “a poor sense of smell” for, while dogs have more sensitivity— humans are good at distinguishing between odors. (ever tried to buy a fake version of a favorite perfume? It never ever is right!)
But I think this might really be about taste as well— smell is most of taste— and picky omnivores need to be able to tell every leaf and berry apart.
@nazokiyoubinbou They think we are incompetent. The way my cat leads me over to her food dish very much has a tone of “I know you’re a little slow so I will make this totally clear.” That I might have decided not to do what she asks doesn’t occur to her. What a silly idea when #pica knows best! If I don’t do as instructed it’s because I’m just too humanly simple minded to grasp her intellectually complex cat ideas — and she redoubles her efforts to dumb it down to “my level”.
My day off. I decide to take a nap on the couch. Moments after I lie down I hear it... an ominous "thump" from the other room. Running little feet (4 of them) rather like the vibraphone sound used in old cartoons. Then... near my head the sound of claws digging into the couch. Tiny little grunts and sighs. She's up. She looms over me.
Listen. We really tried with #Pica. We even sent her to college for a bit. But, after the first two weeks, we stopped by to visit and found out she'd registered with the Divinity school. I was... kind of impressed and heart-warmed that she'd want to serve her community... help people, you know?
But no.
No.
-no, she thought "Divinity School" would teach her to be a Goddess.
AND she had all these students in her dorm feeding and massaging her
#Pica is so considerate. She knew we were going to have a boring sunday, so she woke us up with "hair ball production" sound at 3am coming from somewhere in apartment. And now the day has become a mysterious scavenger hunt!
Where is Pica's surprise? Under a chair? In a shoe? We get to play this fun-game thanks to Pica's careful planning.
A bedraggled woman enters a fancy restaurant. "I'm so hungry please..." she says, and she is so thin and sad seeming the head waiter feels bad and sits her at a table in the break room bringing her some dinner rolls with butter and that day's stew.
She looks at the food, as if in disbelief. Then she looks up at the head waiter "You don't ... have any steak or caviar or anything? Maybe some scampi in butter?" She says.
My husband called me to get the eggs and bacon he made from the kitchen. I stood from this chair and returned seconds later to this: #pica#cats#catofmastodon
"Pica has always been very ethical and an excellent cat as many people agree, and yet the absence of a Code, has led in recent years to the (preposterous) misunderstanding that Pica The Cat, unlike all other cats, regards herself as unrestricted by any ethics rules. So, to dispel this misconception #Pica wants everyone to know she now has a code. She will enforce it herself, being best positioned judge any unlikely (lol impossible) lapses."
