Hoy es...... ¡Bandcamp Friday!

Keyes's contempt notwithstanding, it's clear why Bandcamp workers need a union - after the company was flipped twice in rapid succession, its new owners, and , fired all its unionized workers. Keyes responded to coverage of this mass firing by calling the reporters who wrote about it "absloute amateur journalists."

Songtradr immediately got rid of the Bandcamp union when they purchased the site. Because of course they did.

"By stepping onto Bandcamp’s turf and staking its claim over artists’ non-streaming sources of revenue — by, in the company’s words, allowing users to “shop your offers more easily” — Spotify will probably boost non-music sales for artists, but in the process fortify its position as the music industry’s default platform." https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/10/spotify-is-eating-the-entire-music-business.html

To call selling to a friggin' mess would be an understatement. This thing has been orchestrated from the very start and is only another proof why Epic has one of the shittiest leaderships in the industry.

Ductos,
@Ductos@mastodon.social avatar

Not only did they sell the company after a year. They've now laid off half (!) of Bandcamp's staff, hasn't recognized Bandcamp's union, United, and it appears most of the laid off staff actually were union members, despite Songtradr not having any information on union members.

Unless, of course, Epic gave it to them.
Seriously, screw !

In light of the news that has fired the core dev team of including union organisers, I am done with them.

I am on no less than 45 releases on bc spanning about 15 years, but only have control of about 13 of them. They are ALL coming off.

I have cancelled ALL my pro accounts.

I WILL NOT support a company that treats their heart & soul like that.

HOLY SHIT it may be the last EVER, depending on how the sale of Bandcamp to Songtradr eventually shakes out. Word on the street is that Epic sold Bandcamp when its employees sought to unionize. Time will tell if makes things better or worse for artists and employees.

In the meantime, if you've been enjoying any indie artists and you have yet to show your appreciation by purchasing their music, TODAY would be a superb time to do so!

Oh, crap! The use of the word "fash" for fascism suddenly made me realize that 's "Fashion" is about fascism.

"There's a brand new dance but I don't know its name, that people from bad homes do again and again."

[Fascism as a recurring phenomenon, associated with bad boys or street thugs.]

"It's big and it's bland..."

[The banality of evil.]

"full of tension and fear."

[Self-explanatory.]

"They do it over there but we don't do it here"

[We do it here but we don't call it that.]
