After 75 years of failure, one would imagine that a people would learn what works and what doesn’t, both from their own experience, as well as the experience of others.

Good morning to readers; Kyiv remains in #Ukrainian hands.

In 2022, retired Navy admiral Arne saw a sanctioned Russian ship in the harbor. It was unloading weapons.

He didn't know it then, but it became part of a major scandal: one that shows how close #SouthAfrica is to #russia

Many African leaders, #SouthAfricas included, had deep ties with the #SovietUnion during the late 20th C. During their time as a revolutionary party in exile, the #Soviets helped back the #africannationalcongress who went on to rule S. Africa for the past 30 years.

Ten years ago those in #Taiwan 's #Sunflowermovement and #Ukraines #Maidanrevolution were fighting the same fight...

... one for #democracy and true independence from #authoritarian neighbors.

Johnny, who took part in Taipei, later traveled to Ukraine to discover the similarities.

But Johnny was reminded of his father’s words when his professor at his university in Kyiv started reminiscing about life in the #SovietUnion : “They did well. Everyone had a job. They made the society more stable. It was better than #Capitalism,” he recalls the professor saying. “Those words are the same as my father has always said about #china Johnny told the #TheCounteroffensive — while wearing a necklace representing Ukraine wrapped with blue and yellow cotton rope.

Who is this man?

I've recently been cataloguing the papers of Frank Wise, a Labour MP, ILP member, and civil servant who worked as Director of the Soviet Union's Trade Office Centrosoyuz in the 1920s.

Amongst his papers is this photograph of an unidentified man (it isn't Frank!)

Any ideas?

Most people whose countries were lucky enough not to be forced into the by the had probably never heard of the the instrumentalized to kill millions of 90 years ago. And now they are trying to do it again, maybe even on a worse scope.
