Words as "mere expressions." In this passage of the of (Samyutta Nikaya 1.25), the question is: Does the "Arahant" (who has attained the goal) use the word "I"? The answer is yes, but only conventionally:

https://suttacentral.net/sn1.25/en/sujato

> Skillful, understanding the world’s conventions, they’d use these terms as no more than expressions.”

Bhikkhu Bodhi:
> Skilful, knowing the world’s parlance, He uses such terms as mere expressions.”

Words as "makeshift description." In the Te Ching, 15 (D.C. Lau):

> Of old he who was well versed in the way

> And too profound to be known.
> It is because he could not be known
> That he can only be given a makeshift description:

Living In A State of Harmony With The Universe: Points To The #Tao

We can only appreciate light if darkness exists. The same is true for: different genders, love and hate, up and down, heat and cold, heaven and earth, near and far, hard and soft, active and passive, and so on. These opposites create a whole, which is indivisible.

Someone can only have more than you if you agree that they have more.

The entire financial system is built around the premise that we all mutually agree that individuals and companies are worth more than others.

You cannot criticise someone for having too much without valuing them as having too much.

Why not just accept that real wealth is not money but the feeling which we expect to accompany it?

I use () as my primairy guide for (trail)running. I added an marathon begin April as Primairy event and a HM begin Feb as secondairy event.
Furthermore added only 3 workouts a week as a constraint.

But now I am a bit worried about the workouts TAO prescribes to me.
Atm I am doing approx 23km each week with 17km being my longest run so far.

I don't think an HM wont be any problem but an Marathon is a different story.
Anyone any thoughts?

Humans by default tend to perceive happiness as control over their own existence.

They may gradually become conditioned to think that controlling their own life means conforming to society.

If one bases their happiness solely on materialistic things for instance, one will contribute more to the economy than if one bases it on what is readily available.

The more one bases their happiness on what society defines to be happiness, the less happy one will be.
