We had the incredible good fortune to sit down and pick the brains of two legends: George Sanger and Graeme Devine, the composer and lead programmer of The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour, respectively.
This demo of The 7th Guest VR looks even better than I imagined. The mechanics shown here, particularly the hand through the hat thing, are also super cool, but I also can't imagine them working outside VR, so my hopes of a non-headsqueezing version just dropped.
TIL there is apparently no way to emulate the CD-i version of The 7th Guest on PC because it requires a CD-i add-on called the Digital Video Cartridge. I checked three different emulators and none of them support DVC.
It's a real shame, too, because it looks like they re-rendered all the walking transitions in a much higher framerate than the DOS version, and I'd love to get some hi-res footage of that. It's fucking smooth as butter!

That does look a lot smoother than I remember #The7thGuest being on DOS. But how would that have even happened? Why would the #CDi of all things have ended up with the best version of these animations?

The 7th Guest VR from Vertigo Games debuted today at Meta’s Quest Game Showcase. Trilobyte Games, the studio I co-founded with Rob Landeros and John Fricker licensed the game to Vertigo and they’ve made some magic. Just check out the video trailer. What is stunning to me personally, as a tech and gaming elder, is the longevity of #The7thGuest which was 1st released in 1993 - the first game to feature FMV and human actors. Also, with MYST, the first two games to be released on CD-ROM. The original, retro game is still available to play, through Mojo-Touch Studio who just released a version for Nintendo Switch. Thursday I will be playing a sequel to a game I really enjoyed the sequel I waited for 3 years and when I played the demo it made me more hyped if I only knew that the game was going to be a huge disappointment I wouldn't have preordered it back in the 90s. After playing #The7thGuest I was seriously looking forward to returning to the Stauf mansion sadly #The11thHour has not aged well and I will show you why I will never do a full playthrough of this game. Did this game disappoint anyone else.
@gamemagprintads the ad makes the game sound more awesome than it is like most ads. Might I recommend #The13thDoll instead if you want more #The7thGuest puzzle action. Too many of those AI games in #The11thHour at least you can skip the microscope game in #The7thGuest no such luck in #The11thHour

Thanks for the tip on #The7thGuest on #NintendoSwitch too. I remember playing that and #11thHour as a kid and don't remember beating either. 🤔🖥️💀 Were both games re-released or just the one?
