I got a new keytar as a gift yesterday. It's a MIDI controller only. I want to play this thing in band, but don't know what to connect it to. What's your favorite softsynth for playing live? Name presets, if you use them. Mostly classic rock. I prefer poly -- I can't keep myself from playing chords, even in lead lines. MacOS or maybe iPad.

Thank you.

@kbob @synths not a soft synth, but would work well with a keytar: a Behringer Deepmind12D desktop module.

It is flexible enough to do pretty much any sound you would need. More reliable than software on a laptop and plenty of polyphony.

I use it alongside legendary synths like the Roland D50, Roland Super JX10 and Yamaha SY77 and it fits in.

I wrote about making copies and what that has meant throughout my lifetime... I think it's interesting. Maybe you will too?

City Views on Tour : Analog Berlin Winter 1 - Another series of analog shots from Berlin, this time from late December 2023. This was shot on Fomapan 100 with the Canon FD 28-85mm f/4 lens I was using for the first time here. https://foto.bibra-medien.de/2024/04/12/city-views-on-tour-964-analog-berlin-winter-1/

Not only do I offer , and the service of putting their sounds thru real tape for a little character glow up (see my pinned post for details), I also go the other way! Meaning, if you have an old tape recording on nearly any format (cassette, microcassete, 1/4" stereo or mono open reel, multitrack cassette) that you need to digitize, I can do that for you! High quality transfers for $15/per 45 minutes for most formats!
