Went for a walk yesterday arvo, buggered the feet so no walk today, but I regret nothing :) It was just such a lovely afternoon!

Blockade Australia are at it again this morning. I think this is the fifth day now?

They live stream on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlockadeAustralia (though state governments are currently trying to get Facebook to agree to delete their streams)

The media isn't reporting their actions much, so the best place to keep up to date is via the Blockade Australia Media Releases page https://www.blockadeaustralia.com/category/media-releases/

Here's the latest variant picture for Queensland, Australia.

It's difficult to interpret as sample volumes are very low and patchy. There's a lengthy gap where <10 samples were shared, between May 13 and May 24.

XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" (24%) may have returned to dominance. It looks like the many sub-lineages including EG.* and FL.* are making a contribution

The old was not built for cars. You could go by train from to from 1903 to 1964 (South Coast railway line, Queensland). Now you can't. But a motorway has been built, and widened, and widened again. In every old Australian town you will find the old walkable core: a pub, a square, a cafe, an ANZAC memorial or a street shaded by old trees, or a museum with a photo of an electric tram or trolley bus that used to go there...

The #redditblackout has moved to a new stage... from a two day blackout to indefinitely shutting down... to people moving away entirely.

Yes, r/startrek has lifted off from #reddit and moved to #lemmy -- and with it, a realization that we need an easy way to help people find their new, old communities that have moved from reddit to #lemmy #kbin and whatever else pops up.

I started a quick and dirty list that you can share and contribute to (PRs welcome!).

Here's the latest variant picture for Queensland, Australia.

XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (32%) has surged to dominance.

The XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" (24%) and XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" (19%) variants are still significant.

The "Deltacron" XBC.* variant (11%) and CH.1.1.* "Orthrus" (14%) are still in the frame.

Be alert for conjunctivitis symptoms, particularly associated with the Arcturus variant.

The vigorous mix of very different variants poses a raised immediate re-infection risk for anyone relying on natural immunity from a recent infection.

The sample volumes seem representative up to May 3. There are almost no sequences shared since that date - hopefully only a temporary bottleneck.

Attended the 2023 Let’s Go Caravan & Camping Supershow at Showgrounds; the largest caravanning event in the state. Something for everyone from expedition vehicles (📷1), hybrid trailers that transform into larger accommodations (📷2), compact 2-person 4WD motorhomes (📷3), to retro-style caravans (📷4). Quite different from European shows: here the off-road capable caravans dominate—the terrain is much tougher.

Met a snake friend while out riding today, just casually crossing the path under a bridge.
By the time they'd crossed, there were several of us standing around basically just gushing at how pretty snek was. Including one couple who took a photo, then typed something into their phone and showed me the translation app they had: "We just sent this photo to Brazil."

TicklishHoneyBee,

Also, I noticed this sign.

The Japanese Garden in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mount Coot-tha. It was originally made for the Japanese Pavilion at the World Expo in 1988, and afterwards given to the people of Brisbane. Very peaceful and relaxing. I wish I could hang out here all the time!

Time to continue with more flies! This guy is from genus Cerdistus, part of a group of successful aerial predators known as robber flies. Harmless to humans, they catch other insects on the wing.

Long-legged flies (Sciapodinae)! These metallic green and copper flies are a common sight in Meanjin/Brisbane, and despite their diminutive size of a few millimetres, they're actually predators of other insects!

For I bring you my display at . It's not the best picture.
Starting at the top, we have a 1:1 scale baby mosasaur, not scaled human skeleton, trilobite, and ankylosaurus and two "rock fossils" at the very back of a different trilobite and prawn thing haha. None of those are designed by me.
The next shelf is some duplo builds and some of the 3 in 1 dinosaur sets.
The third and fourth shelf are my Lego museum. All my designs.
Enjoy

Here's the latest variant picture for Queensland, Australia.

The XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" variant (23%) appears to be fading against the dual challenge of XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" (25%) and XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (20%).

The "Deltacron" XBC.* variant (10%) has fallen back, after showing some promise in late March.

The sample volumes seem representative up to April 27.

@royscholten @exkclamation Yeah. Im thinking tomorrow when i go to I will work on a few of these kinds of designs. I might not even rework them as I love the artsy feel they have. And I tend to normally lean into accurate representation when I design my designs.
