I’m on a tram in Naarm/Melbourne- weee. - we need to bring these back. Or at least the Metro needs major expansion onto public roads.
(Saw a Metro on Kingsford Smith Drive on Tuesday.)

Young Mistletoebird, on a head-height mistletoe, eating mistletoe berries

Australian native mistletoe fruit is bushtucker, and reportedly yummy, but at the rate he hoovered down the ripe ones we didn't get to verify this

Mount Glorious

Small bird on a branch inspecting some fruit to left of shot. Chest is mostly white with red patches towards the top, wings and face are dark grey/brown. Background is blurred green rainforest

We watched this young Laughing Kookaburra for a while, hoping for a shot with some exciting prey. It swooped down from this hunting spot a few times, but for the most part I think it got to eat mud and bark (as evidenced by the beak-tip decorations)

The young birds have entirely black beaks, and what would be black features on the adult's face are brown

Hopefully it had better luck later, without our audience

Maiala picnic grounds, Mount Glorious

Medium sized bird with dirty-white chest on a mossy branch with head turned to left of shot. The bird's brown-banded tail extends below the branch. Background is out of focus branches and leaves

In the area, thought I'd ride across the new Breakfast Creek Green Bridge. It's been a long wait, but it's very swish.

The bridge from the other end, with the sunset in the background. Two joggers job pass, one without a shirt on

Fun at Vertigo, at the Powerhouse. Food while your legs dangle over the rather big drop; then a jump off the top of the roof! The jump was terrifying.

A view of the side of the Brisbane Powerhouse, a tall brick building, with the tables suspended over the side on the top.

The only thing more than a Water Dragon near the wheel would be if there was a bin chicken also in the photo :)

An even closer shot of the same Eastern Water Dragon, looking magnificent.

Voted! Nice to be able to vote in advance (I’ll be out of the country on voting day). The candidates- local councillors, not Mayors - were there too, so it was good to be able to wish my candidate good luck.

While we were distracted getting a new roof, two new housemates moved in (one pictured). Roof possums!

Cage traps go in next week. They will be released back in our yard, because they can't get out again now the roof is complete

I just saw that London has a Craft Week and now I feel like Australia needs a Craft Week too. So many craft skills are disappearing. Sewing is enjoying a resurgence in recent years but crafts like tatting and lacemaking are dying out and traditional craft groups are finding it harder to attract younger people to pass their skills on to.

Australian Craft Week: Because when society collapses we need crafts to carve the paddle that will rescue us from shit creek.
