I'm old enough to remember this well. It was a stellar example of public harm caused by private delusion, tolerated and applauded by millions.

I'm not even American, and I liked Jimmy Carter.
Wasn't he the only President that never had a war.

I think he was also a #Christian before White Nationalists and GOP stole that title.

If you asked me what a Nationalist would say, it's this.

"Questioned about comments and actions deemed by many to be homophobic, the new Republican US House speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, told Fox News his worldview was: “Go pick up a Bible.”

Speaking on Thursday, Johnson said he “genuinely love[d] all people regardless of their lifestyle choices.

“This is not about the people themselves. I am a Bible-believing Christian. Someone asked me today in the media, they said, ‘… People are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that’s my worldview. That’s what I believe and so I make no apologies for it.”

Johnson added: “That’s my personal worldview.”

Looking for churches is an interesting experience. Over the years I’ve had opportunity to look for churches many times and I’ve often run into some weird things.

I’m curious what’s the weirdest thing you’ve run into visiting a new church?

My answers in the thread below and in no particular order.

This poll is for identified people, regardless of level of participation. If you were baptized as a baby, but don't attend parish services, you still count for this poll.

When you say "Christian", do you most often mean:

If you have never heard of the "Society for American Civic Renewal" (the acronym is pronounced “” by its members), it’s because they’ve been trying to stay under the radar.

Now that they are getting uncovered, they are attempting to manage the news coming out about them.
They are working to fundamentally reshape America to their vision. It sounds like a classic conspiracy theory — a bunch of rich white men on a mission from God? Really?
The thing is, there’s something about people who have managed to accumulate wealth, whether in business or by other means (like inheritance) that practically breeds hubris.
The prosperity gospel preaches that wealth is a sign that God has especially favored you, and you are privileged to rule over others by virtue of that wealth.
Kovensky has been able to unearth some details on what is about.
What is it? Among other things…
...The men TPM has identified as behind this group — and they are all men — have a few things in common. They’re all a certain kind of devout . They are . They have means, and social, and are engaged in .
...The members identified by TPM don’t necessarily fit the profile of the disaffected, disgruntled loner or the amped-up, testosterone-fueled militia types often found on the paranoid right-wing fringe. TPM’s reporting has identified as SACR members the president of the influential, Trump-aligned , grads, and leading businessmen in communities scattered across America.
...Group members hold a distinct vision of America as a latter-day ancient Rome: a crumbling, decadent empire that could soon be replaced by a Christian .
To join, the group demands faithfulness, virtue, and “,” which it describes as “ to and acceptance of the wisdom of our American and European Christian forebears in the political realm, a traditional understanding of in the household, and acceptance of traditional in ethics more broadly.”
More practically, members must be able to contribute either influence, capability, or wealth in helping SACR further its goals.

Well, i've tried to make a case for politically correct and , but i got shut down rather rudely with an unsophisticated troll-ish post, on .

See: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/13082

Why does (some) - Free, as in , , need a bias?

Why is it "too heated", to discuss including everyone else?

Perhaps not perfect, but i think i've made a pretty reasonable case.

There is no such thing as the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is a figment of the supersessionist imagination. It is a term meant to co-opt Jews and Jewish history into a #Christian narrative to give legitimacy to that narrative. It is a term that erases #Jews and #Judaism. Everyone should stop using that term.

In Suits Are Now In Positions of Power

"I believe that the Bible makes it very clear that God is the one who puts people in power. He raised you all up, and I believe that God planned and allowed each of us to be here at this very moment in time. This is what I think."

This was the most important part of Rep. Mike Johnson’s acceptance speech last week after being chosen Speaker of the House.

"Mike Johnson is Dangerous!"

Also pondering the -leaning aspect of my upbringing.

When you take the lyrics "would he devote that Sacred Head for such a worm as I?" into your very core as a 5-year-old, it takes A LOT to get shut of that unsightly baggage as an adult.

Even "Amazing Grace": "...how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me...."

Really? I was a child. A baby.

A wretch?

Reprobate & miscreant are some of the synonyms. I was to learn those as well.

On Sunday. 30 April 2023, at 11:00am I shall be proclaiming a message from the Word of God to Ironworks Pike Community Church.
The subject is "God knows each one of us" and is mostly based on Psalm 139.
Verse 1 states: "O Lord, you have searched me and known me!"
He knows us better than we know ourselves.
Anyone is welcome to attend our service, but not all are able due to distance across the world. That's why we stream live on YouTube. Our channel is https://www.youtube.com/@ironworkspikecommunitychur5709/streams

What in the wide world of fuckery is this??? is having their hosts recite prayers as part of their programming. They're supposedly sponsored , paid for by some Christian app. This is just too much. I may have to pack my shit and head up into the mountains to live out my days cut off from the world, and blissfully ignorant of whatever the Christ-folk are doing.

Honest question:

With the rapidly declining proportion of Americans self-identifying as , which now is below 50% of the general population, should a workplace shift manager have a reasonable expectation for their non-Christian employees to report to work on Christmas Day without additional compensation?

The only trauma I really have is being raised in a household. Really makes me wonder what my life would be/how different or how much better it would be if I wasn’t forced/groomed/indoctrinated to have such self-loathing, hateful, and violent beliefs. Especially in that nut job environment. If you, out there, reading this are considering converting to a evangelical Christian, don’t. They’re absolute nut jobs.

Hey team. Those of you who went through or are involved with admissions. I've got a few mini-essays to write for my application. Does theology grad school aim differently? Should I be writing as a reverent servant, ready for humble instruction? Or should I be going hard self-cheerleader like a cover letter or typical grad school application?

Worried I might be tooting my own horn too much in what I've written so far. But also worried if I go too soft I'll get sidelined. Thoughts?
