Today has been my hardest day ever. We had to say goodbye to our lovely dog, Whoopie.
Over the weekend, we thought she might feel better, but then on Sunday evening, her health deteriorated so badly that we asked the vet to come to our home and relieve her. We are thankful that we could accompany her until the end.

This amazing #goldenRetriever adopted a litter of #tigerCubs after they lost their birth mother. Now that they're fully grown, she stays with them in their habitat and is still in charge! We really don't deserve #dogs. 🐕🦺

We lost our GSD, Kaiser, to cancer on 11/30/2023. He was 13 years old. Our last large dog. It feels weird, not having a big fur baby around, but we're getting older & I'm unable to lift or hold onto a large breed anymore. A lifetime of Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds done.
So, if you see an older woman who coos and looks longingly at the big dog you're walking...that might be me. Or someone else like me. We'll be thinking "lucky you." ❤️

Yep. I'm still adapting to the fact that I'll never have a big dog again. We have two small ones now that are delightful. Before they arrived, I had a Havanese (Pepper) come into my life who completely owned my heart. He was the one to convince me that small dogs were fun, too. He used to ride in a basket on the front of my bike and he LOVED it. He passed in Oct '22.
Smaller ones are easier/safer for my aging body to care for. I'm going to miss the big ones, though.
@wkpickett I saw a dog while on vacation last year that was called a Morkie - a Maltese/Yorkie mix. It was adorable. I loved riding my bike with Izzie!
