When I find some time this week I'll post a run-down on my website on how each of the 37 participating countries went and where to from here.
In the meantime, can I issue a plea to take a deep breath and employ some nuance when discussing the result. One of the reasons I joined Mastodon was because I was sick of the toxicity on Twitter and other social media sites, and I'm disappointed to see echoes of it here. Take it elsewhere, please.
I had a lot of people engaging about #Eurovision last night, and for those of you that follow me for security and tech wondering if my account had been hijacked. It hadn’t, and this will probably be my last post about Eurovision Song Contest this year.
But I’d like to go into some of the minutiae and nuance of the contest, and explain why not everything is as it seems from the outside.
I will try try to start posting right before the semi-finals next year, which are an important part of that experience, but usually get insufficient press coverage.
I'm often disappointed at how skewed the public's vote is. Say what you like about juries, but they usually spread the votes more evenly. There were some countries that really didn't deserve the very low televote they received.

Can't watch all of the semi finals of #Eurovision#ESC23 but tuned in for a bit tonight and fairly underwhelmed so far. Norway started off strong, real Within Temptation vibe bit lost me after a bit. Malta, more like meh-lta. And with Serbia all I'm thinking is "when does the song actually start?". I guess I'll just wait for Saturday then.
