Hey @feditips , I recall you mentioning #lemmy isn't a great idea. Have you put anything up on the website about #reddit , er, "alien site" equivalents in the #fediverse for the sake of those in exodus of alien site?
I think it's beyond lax moderation, the Lemmygrad instance seems to be actively encouraging terrible stuff, and it appears to be run by the lead developer.
My point is more that people looking for a #Lemmy replacement for #Reddit need to do a lot more homework selecting an instance than with most #Fediverse software
I will be at the 7th ECREA Radio and Sound Section Conference (6-8 September) to talk about #FunkWhale as the #Fediverse alternative to centralised commercial #AudioStreaming services like #Spotify.
#askFedi I wanted to set up something to post aperiodic reminders on #Twitter to come to #Mastodon/the #Fediverse, and wanted to use something that goes through the web interface (for obvious reasons). I tried to cook up something with #PhantomJS, failing spectacularly. If anybody knows anything about something of the sort, recommendations are welcome.
"The lack of an algorithmic feed is also a challenge to advertisers, who use it to have their products pushed to buyers who meet certain criteria. To this I say: Good."
We've dealt with two, yes two antisemitic instance moderators/admins this week- and this isn't especially unusual. It's sadly common, even on large instances.
It's really exhausting work, and so much of it is largely invisible. But it bugs me. When I see how many posts about how safe and progressive the #Fediverse is, when I know that it's only safe if you fit into certain boxes- it bugs me. Whenever I see someone post that, it actually hurts me a little, because it's a reminder of #JewsDontCount
But back to the point... There's a discussion in the CT about whether we should continue to silently take the actions we take, or whether we should publish it, to "Name and shame". I haven't been for this, personally, but I wonder if my belief needs to change. I don't know if it will change any minds, but maybe it will? Or maybe it will just make the mods here not feel so gaslit?
#MacOS friends and #fediverse folks: I need MacOS text editor/IDE, ideally FOSS. Sublime costs $100 for a license, which is out. Atom is depreciated. The vanilla TextEdit insists on saving .rtf. What are folks using?
Time for our usual chat so let’s grab our #KoffeeWithKyle and discuss the plans for the day and weekend ahead.
I’ve been awake going on 4.5hrs already. Couldn’t sleep much so went ahead and don’t some things out of the way. Updated my “now” page finally (https://kylereddoch.me/now/). Have work today here after a bit then relaxing after that.
The fediverse – lots of different facets, microboggling, pictures/video, etc, but they’re all venues you shoot your load to and stand back to witness appraisal etc
What about a different mode such as, well, if I wanted to plug in my electric guitar and practice a bit with a few other people synchronously every few mornings of a week before work?
A thing like that is nothing like the shape of the fediverse now, but it has users/accounts and other similar stuff, just the dynamic is completely different

I know technically it can be done. My brother is in an a cappella mens’ chorus. During the Covid lockdown they were able to rehearse and ultimately give a concert, entirely via zoom. I have no idea how difficult it was to deal with latency and lag issues, or any of the rest of the details, but they pulled it off. The result was beautiful.
