I wanted to learn the names of the neighbourhoods in #Ghent, so I made me a #puzzle. I added the neighbourhoods in #OpenStreetMap , then made a custom theme in #MapComplete and use the 'export as PNG'-functuon. The background is a modified stylesheet for @protomaps
17 Apr 1654: St John Lloyd of #Brecon is sent home to #Wales from #Ghent#otd He ministered on the Glamorgan-Monmouthshire border area. Executed with St Phlip Evans at #Cardiff in July 1679 (eebo/Therese Wynn-Davies)
I stumbled upon a quote from Dr. Dirk von Schneidemesser. He described #cycling in #Germany as "normalized but marginalized". And that completely describes cycling in #Belgium as well.
It means biking gets some space and investment to stimulate it, but priority is always given to motor traffic in both investment and amount of public space taken.
#bike priority roads like in #Ghent are a nice start, but we need a shift in thinking.
@JorisMeys that's how I feel in Ghent. They boast being bike-friendly but the bike infrastructure is designed by people who only drive cars, and the police rather go after the weak bike people than bother with all those car drivers not giving a sh*t about the rules.
@gattaraS2 é, eu vejo posts falando de exemplos disso e logo lembro de ti. Inclusive conto contigo pra ajudar a realizar esse sonho pra todos nós nas próximas décadas
Hey devs around here: how do you test accessibility?
I've been testing #mapcomplete with the #Orca#screenreader today, and fixing some issues but I feel quite unsure about it, so I'p interested in your approaches.
Or if someone who's using a screenreader could help me test (in #ghent or at #CCC), that would be appreciated
@Piciok I am just normal user, trying to be somewhat helpfull. @pietervdvn is working on it. I would say your experience and tips might be usefull as well. It's happening at dev.mapcomplete.org .
@pvagner@pietervdvn Hello. I have just begun my testing. My stack is Firefox and NVDA on Windows. I see that the announcements of moving in a certain direction and what is visible are passed through an aria-alert role. This has the consequence of Firefox supressing each spoken utterance by saying the word "alert". I think a fixed aria-live region populated with these announcement would be a far more effective solution. It may be that my diagnosis is wrong also as I'm quite new to calling the things by their names. Anyway, thank you for taking this endeavour upon yourself. This is much appreciatewd.
