#ev#maps#evChargers how hard is it to get a complete map of EV chargers?
Apparently very hard.
Around my apartment building there are 2 chargers. 1 of them has been here a few years (Allego), the other was installed last year (Vattenfall). But some map apps show one but not the other and vice versa.
#AppleMaps is aware of both of them though, but that app doesn’t show the costs.
I wanted to learn the names of the neighbourhoods in #Ghent, so I made me a #puzzle. I added the neighbourhoods in #OpenStreetMap , then made a custom theme in #MapComplete and use the 'export as PNG'-functuon. The background is a modified stylesheet for @protomaps
One of the most important slides IMHO is the 'Pareto frontier' which graphs 'easy of use' vs 'number of features'.
Another important thing is the difference between @MapComplete and @streetcomplete : the latter is meant only for adding data, whereas #MapComplete is meant for both consuming and contributing data.
While @MapComplete has that, I wanted to try and review a shoe repair place, but #MapComplete requires the entity to be in one of their themes - and there seems to be no "repair/zerowaste/sustainability" theme.
Went on a bird walk this morning in #RiversideParkNY led by Torie of the #RiversideParkConservancy . Lots of birds out. Even with all the dogs yapping. The birds still move too fast for me so I ended up taking photos of infrastructure. Mostly stairs with handrails for #MapComplete and #OpenStreetMap.
Was ein haarsträubender Wildwuchs im Bereich #Defibrillator en bzw. #AED Kartierung doch in DE herrscht!
The #OpenStreetMap booth at #37c3 has a big printer. A good test for the #MapComplete PDF-export function! In this case, it shows #surveillance cameras in #hamburg . Want your own map? Come over to the Bits-and-Baume area
Are you at #37c3 and are you using #accessibility technologies such as #screenreader , #braille displays or similar? We are in the process of making #MapComplete more accessible and want to user test this. Please get in touch!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 FE which has a lange screen and battery (it works fine for me, only charging to 85%). I have a bulkier spigen case on it, and have dropped it several times yet, no damage.
I have been thinking about buying an S23 Ultra or a Galaxy fold, but I would just risk to destroy more money.
If I would buy an additional device it would be a used 10" tablet for mapping.
Also an interesting approach would be a #NexDock which I never tried, but might even work like a tablet but as screen and input device for my existing phone, which would make switching during mapping more easy.
At the moment I only do #StreetComplete on the go, and maybe #mapcomplete while sitting in a restaurant for example.
Du weißt, dass du faul bist, wenn du die App stattdessen benutzt, während du das Video von heute anschaust, wie du mit dem #Fahrrad unterwegs warst. :P
Hey devs around here: how do you test accessibility?
I've been testing #mapcomplete with the #Orca#screenreader today, and fixing some issues but I feel quite unsure about it, so I'p interested in your approaches.
Or if someone who's using a screenreader could help me test (in #ghent or at #CCC), that would be appreciated
The map of Málaga, in Spain, shows to date 658 public artworks, 321 memorials and 102 fountains with at least one photo on Wikimedia Commons. The data is freely available for use and download under ODbL via #OpenStreetMap.
A new version of #MapComplete has been released, containing a few big updates!
The first one is the addition of favourites. This acts like a personal list of bookmarked features. If you bookmark a feature, it'll also show up on every mapcomplete map you visit.
"...Das Projekt OpenStreetMap verspricht dagegen eine "freie" Weltkarte, die kostenlos genutzt werden kann. Vor allem aber können alle daran mitarbeiten, ähnlich wie bei der Wikipedia. Unsere Gastautoren Dr. Petra Sauerborn und Sebastian Kauer zeigen, wie sich OpenStreetMap in der Schule einsetzen lässt."
A new button has appeared on the homepage. Hidden away at the very bottom of the page, there to be found by the most adventurous mappers... The place where only a few of you have gone before, because they were asked to test or because they were at the session at #SOTMeu.
But it has finally arrived: #MapComplete Studio! The place where you can create your own thematic map (layer) for MapComplete!
Dedicated phone for mapping?
Does anyone here have a phone/device just for mapping? A lot of the mapping I’m doing now is updating details of already mapped items....
