Interestingly those Gobbos for The Old World are quite early sculpts. Later they released those one part goblins. I quite liked them.

David Pierce of

It is nice he thinks ActivityPub is the Internet of the future, calling it "the post-platform" world in which journalists, individuals, organizations all run their own ActivityPub services rather than create accounts on platforms like Ex-Twitter or Facebook. But his perspective is still limited to a world where all applications run on the HTTP protocol with DNS identifying services. He talks about the "Post On (your) Own (host), Syndicate Everywhere" (POSSE) model, and how organizations and individuals can deploy Mastodon instances on their own servers. They also interviewed @pluralistic (Cory Doctorow) which was nice.

They really should have interviewed the @spritelyinst folks to see the real Internet of the future, in which HTTP is replaced with the Object Capability Network (OCapN). But to be fair, this tech is still pretty new and maybe not yet to the point where tech journalists at The Verge would be interested in doing articles about it.

I'm kinda obsessed with Rogue and roguelike games in general (and weird monsters). I was reading this great article from 2016 about their history that I boosted yesterday (thanks to @WoodooProd for alerting me to it).

As I read and poked around the web to check out these early roguelikes, I loved these two screens from a SUPER early roguelike (Pedit5, from 1975).

Monsters loading! 🤣

@daviwil @PaniczGodek but in all fairness, I think interest in Scheme has been growing due to 's adoption of Chez for their primary backend and 470x performance increase they saw as an immediate result.

The average person seems to think that scheme is a slow toy language for learning how to implement programming languages, which is just incredibly wrong as demonstrated by projects like , , and countless others. is C among functional languages.

Having some vague morning thoughts about how one might make a hybrid forum/social site based on ActivityPub.

Imagining a federated social feed with additional groups/topics which may or may not federate off-instance.

Obviously one can "create" topics with hashtags today, but I think it might be interesting to have a more focused organization of posts.

Thoughts?

@daviwil @garjola I am planning on using 's library to do some kind of job control or process management. The "vat" model sounds like it would be useful for creating an API to launch POSIX processes and capturing their output, kind of like how the async-shell-command works, but with in a system that is fully multi-threaded.

I would love an alternative to where the full stack was programmed in — server side, and the front end programmed with Biwa Scheme. More importantly, I'd implement some of the blocklisting and spam controls that Mastodon should have had by now. I wish I could get paid for this stuff, damn the current state of the computer industry.

My dream: a -backed build daemon, used as the foundation of a Goblins-backed Cuirass/Build Coordinator/Data Service. A bunch of focused actors (microservices? :-)) working hand in hand.

We’d pass “read” capabilities to packagers so they can inspect their state, and “admin” capabilities for developers and maintainers to fiddle with the build queue, query an evaluation, etc.

According to Norwegian folklore, trolls don't like the smell of Christians. They can smell Christians from far away, and the odour makes them furious. Trolls are known to have serious anger management issues, so Christians would be well advised to stay far away from them.

There are two important things in a goblin’s lyfe. I’m talking about all of us, the gobkon, the hobkon, the mulkon — all of us — our relationship to the Queen and our Guild. This is hard for you humans, with all your divergent nations and cities and faiths and disgusting menagerie animals to understand.

GoblinBy creanita design und ausführung by nina saner (CC BY-SA 2.0)

I’m a printer, part of the Ratxet Guild. My engines run on the power of muls (best!) or whoever else I can hire. The clockwerks give that comforting noise as sheaf and stamp press against each other leaving words behind.

We’re into gears, mostly. But also some other interesting clockwerks. Frankly, we do better with springs than the Union does. Sure, they’ve the Queens’ Stamp – so we cannot sell to others. In our builds we don’t buy from the Union anymore.

My first engine was a climbing device. Lean it up against a feral tar-tree and you’ll be able to get to the top on a platform to work that tree with nary your own effort. It was a tough build, because I needed it to be strong enough for a hob. Without a brother there were no hobs to help me. Sis rode atop my shoulders during the entire testing phase.

At Test it showed a new mechanic for the tar-tree. A Baroness blessed the family via flag and decree. Mother’s standing improved, and the full family took on that glory.

Now, sister is part of the Airxip Syndicate. They’re relatively new. Taking our bike-props and bladders from the Sisterhood, and the Federation’s tar stacks, the Syndicate built those awesome airxips. I don’t understand her werk. There’s something about steampipes. She’s done well for mother. Her flags came from a Countess, one for her and one for mother. Blerxa left on the First Flight with me.

I’m Phatha Phioxa Baroness-flagged of the Guild. Sis is Blerxa Phioxa First-Countess Flagged and Many Unfurled of the Syndicate.

We are what we build and how much the Ladies, may they serve the Queen, reward us for our werks.

A few more daughters like us and mother could be a Lady. If Blerxa and I hadn’t left for the untamed lands of the Kin Blerx may have earned mother the knighting on her own.

Our werks are trapped from knowing since we are far from Queen, so I expect mother to have a few more gobkon. Maybe I’ll find out if I go back, not until after I figure out how to use the power of horses in my next werk. They smell, but they are even stronger than the muls!
