I'm thinking about trying Awesome as a Window Manager. Have any of you tried it?

I used i3 several years ago and was very satisfied with it. I've also heard about dwm.

What do you use and what do you recommend?

I love the bing daily wallpapers, I especially love that they seem to always have a related wallpaper if it's a UN recognised 'day'. For example, today is Bee Day!

I have a script that can automatically download and set the bing daily wallpaper on my gitlab https://gitlab.com/tripplehelix/bing-wallpaper

Couldn't find a script that downloaded and set the daily #Bing image as a #wallpaper, so I took two scripts from Github and combined them.

Should work on #XFCE #i3 #MATE and #Gnome. However only tested on XFCE.

  • Steam
  • OBS
  • Discord

L'ordinateur en question : HP-Pavilion p6345fr (WC956AA-ABF)

PS : Est-il possible d'augmenter la ram au-delà des 4go ?

Merci d'avance

Since my mid-2013 reached its (long time ago), and the decides not to support 11 anymore. 😤

I’ve decided to bring my back to life and install on it. And it is indeed great so far. 😍

As you can see I’m still configuring and customizing it.
Let’s see how it goes 🙄

Trying to set up a workstation again (I really want to get back to ), and loving it already.

doesn’t run in Wayland mode. Logs say something about a segfault in -shell.

• Using instead works, but if I position my left monitor to (0, 420) (because the right one is taller), the output on screen moves down (with the menu bar now in the middle of the screen), the mouse cursor is offset.

• In , the mouse cursor is invisible.

Oh Linux. Never change.

scy,
@scy@chaos.social avatar

@veronica Apparently everything gets confused if there’s no 0,0. I’m currently trying (under Xorg) and it too produces an empty area at the top of my left monitor instead of simply moving the monitor to different coordinates on the virtual screen. This is infuriating!

What is your favorite desktop environment and why? :linux:

I'm currently considering to switch away from GNOME the main reason i use it is because of the dash to dock feature (until recent events good stability ) . But i don't know much about any other environment than KDE and GNOME and i dislike KDE's task bar

kkarhan,

@weirdmedia Consider as in @bunsenlabs or , which is a lightweight -gaps-inspired compositor based on .

I've settled down a bit after an initial adventure ever since starting worrying me. Here's what I've settled down on now, after experimenting with different setups:

  1. and on my primary and experimental laptops
  2. to synchronize dotfiles
  3. to manage command line utilities across distros with
    4.i. + + preferred on
    4.ii. on

is very cool....

however, is nowhere as feature rich without lots of customization (maybe not even then) compared to or . One killer feature in i3 is the tree based tiling layouts - I can have two vertically split containers, and tabbed windows in each (or just one).

I'd love to have that functionality in my kde setup, but reading up - even running #3 within doesn't seem smooth/vanilla enough. I'll still keep playing around with it on my laptop, but boy does it need extra setup!

Spero possa servire a chi vuole provarlo.

For tiling applications on a workspace, then the Regolith Desktop using Ubuntu and i3 window manager looks a whole lot better with way more options.

After years of sniffing at it curiously, I started poking around with the #i3 DE on #Fedora. It feels like there's a lot to learn and that it can be a bit of a time sink, and honestly, I'm all in.

Defolos,

@kj5amz Thank you for giving it a try!

Are you using the official i3 spin? If you got any ideas or feedback, we'd be happy to hear it 🙂
