I'm slowly making my way through a 8 thousand line python addition to 's library for parsing text and font elements in properly. It's important and useful, but it's also a lot.

I'm not sure how to say "please run pylint over your code because my eyes hurt trying to read this". without sounding like an ungrateful jerk. 😅

TLDR: draw.io is groovy for drawing diagrams.

A while back I went through the tutorials for Inkscape and was fairly impressed.

Now that I sat down to draw some box-and-arrow data structure diagrams, I found that (a) the knowledge had fallen out of my head and (b) it was nearly impossible to figure out how to do things by playing with the program. I probably spent the better part of an hour trying to center text vertically within a box. A DuckDuckGo search was useless, because I kept getting videos explaining how to do much fancier things like getting text to lie along a curve. The only source that explained the procedure was, surprisingly, ChatGPT.

Clearly this is far too powerful a tool for my task -- like slicing butter with a chainsaw.

I looked for open source alternatives and alternativeto.net reminded me of draw.io. I had used this before, but been annoyed that it insisted on saving things within Google drive and manually drilling through my directory structure each time. Fortunately, there is now a standalone desktop app that lets me save things locally. It feels much friendlier -- poking around for a few seconds tends to find what I need.

I was happy to once again collaborate with Pidilite (An Indian multinational company specializing in adhesive and related products) to transform their Rangeela Mascot from 2D to 3D. This version of the mascot was for the moulding dough product. The mascot will be used in packaging and marketing material. This was a fun and refreshing project. Creating the clay dough effect was an amazing experience.

The artwork was created using only these Free Software - , and

Se usate e volete mettere del testo su un tracciato vi insegno un trucchetto.

NON usate elementi del disegno come tracciato per il testo, altrimenti non riuscirete a modificarli senza scombinare il testo.

E non chiedete come faccio a saperlo.

I've got my proof of concept put together.

I'd be interested in your thoughts @ScruffyDux and @zemarmot

It might be possible to duplicate this technique for librsvg too. Depends if it works 😅

I'm feeling really good about my new LED art project. This is a collab with my partner Allie who did the illustration/vectors for the cloud. It'll have LEDs going under both layers, and then white opaque vinyl on top to give it a crisp edge and hide the coroplast ribs.

Per usual, this was designed in and the inner layers were computed from that using .

Decided to modify my existing USS Yeager corridor set (first image) to create a corridor for the USS Cerberus.

Still in progress, of course, but you can compare the first two images and see the different style I'm going for with this one. Besides adding more details, I've still got to replace the lift with a different style.

USS Cerberus corridor. The floors are carpeted grey and blue, while the walls are mostly different shades of grey. There are blue lights near the bottom of the wall segments.

More progress on the Cerberus corridors. Added those weird light sconces the Enterprise-E corridors had (1st pic), added a large wall for an LCARS display and map of the ship (2nd pic), and added all the detailing on the inner wall segments (3rd pic).

A wall on the Cerberus corridor. On the middle it has a long horizontal screen, turned off for the time being.

Did a quick LCARS screen using existing elements for the Cerberus corridor.

I also did a new turbolift based on the USS Prometheus one (which was a redress of the Enterprise-D emergency turbolift, only seen in TNG twice). Might change it to something else, it's a bit on the small side.

Recreated the turbolift graphic from the Prometheus, but on the Cerberus colors for the lift. I also modeled the handrails and the remaining corridor panels.
