Oh, waily, waily!

It feels wrong finally reading the last book, and I have put it off for a long time. I re-read the whole discworld series to get to this. It makes it so much more an "end", but I am most of the way through it now.

If I start talking Feegle, you'll ken why. Crivens!

Here is a "terrorist leading thousands of illegal invaders across borders claiming they want "refuge against an oppressive regime".

Cached US Kindle giveaway: 10 copies of Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards! This is not one of my favorite DW books -- it's more focused on humor than human insight, but a) I'm weird, b) other people will fight me about this opinion, and c) it's the first one that shows his direction changing. Also, it introduces the Night Watch, which means Vimes and Carrot. It is a great place to start reading DW if you have't yet.

When you are a chronic irritant, and have a job for life, then you only have so long as part of the problem before people start thinking the obvious.

As once pointed out, a job for life does not necessarily have to be a job for long.

You just have to hope all your opponents are handwringing milquetoasts who believe in "civility" and "process". Sadly there are too many of those right now too.

The Former Guy has made it clear, friends. It’s up to us and our votes to keep him from ever entering the White House again.

@georgetakei @rayhindle I like the Terry Pratchett approach, politicians in XXXX are put in prison as soon as they are elected - it saves time later. Hence several references to going to the prison to see the prime minister.

I don't quite get the last one "stop the boats".

Do "people" (aka voters) really, generally, have an issue?

What is the issue?

Is it people drowning, endangering themselves? (simple, hand out ferry tickets at Calais - cheaper than almost any other solution).

Is it asylum seekers? (have a proper simple process to help them when they arrive, here in the UK)

What is the perceived issue here?

Or am I just being thick?

Pluralize something to make it ominous.

@craigmaloney I would going to say pluralise “Roger the bull” as I have only just read the foot note that explains “Rogers the bulls”. But I am not sure it make it/they more ominous…

I don't restrict followers.

It is a bit a of a free speech idea. What I say here is for all to see, and the way it is set up you can see what I say even if not a "follower".

But if anyone does not like what I say, or what I boost, please do fuck off. Sorry, I know what I say is not for all, and that includes my saying "fuck" occasionally.

For those that remain, I shall try and stick to my usual ramblings, both technical and personal.

I was reading Terry Pratchett last night and realised he had predicted the rise of Large Language Models like ChatGPT. In "Going Postal", Ladislav Pelc, D.M.Phil, Prehumous Professor of Morbid Bibliomancy, wrote a whole chapter on "...oh, something to do with big masses of writing thinking for themselves."
