First test today with a bone needle I've made, and its result.
The shape creates a good amount of skin trauma without placing the ink exactly how I want it. I think I'll make some shaping adjustments next time, but overall I'm pleased that it worked.
1/3 Happy #Easter! 🐰🥚🌼 #DYK the holiday has its roots in a #pagan festival celebrating the #springequinox (when the length of nights & days become equal) in the Northern Hemisphere.* The equinox happens when the Earth’s axis & its orbit line up, giving both hemispheres an equal amount of sunlight.
We use an astronomical calculation to work out which day Easter lands on ✖️➗🔭
*Note that this is the autumn equinox for us down under 🌏
Paganism is nature-centered, but not everyone has an easily accessible, semi-private area to actually practice outside. Also, weather happens. So I'm wondering:
What percentage of your practice happens outdoors?
Excited to share!
I worked on this book! A lot of love and care went into this. It has a lot to give! Anyone who is interested in the ancient Egyptian deities, this is for you. A life long reference. buy here: https://www.llewellyn.com/product.php?ean=9780738770796
Spring has truly come in (even though the chill is sticking a bit longer). Flowers, trees, animals, elements and more dance the season into being. What's more, the old teachers I had thought were done with me have returned. The support being offered to me by the spirits and deities at this time is deeply felt. However, the internal animal part of me wonders what this could all about. I hope this year is a good one.
Jaguar (and black panther) were one of my first teachers/protectors when I was just starting out. I find them coming back into my life and bringing with them a fierce inspiration and new lessons to learn.
Youth of Horns: Take care of your body. Make your physical health a priority. Make the effort to get moving a little, and take the time to rest when you need to. Pay attention to what your body is telling you, because it may be different from what other people say. Be in your body as much as you can (depending on pain levels, etc.) instead of being off in your thoughts. That will help ground you and make your experience of life more stable.
Priest of Labryses: When you're faced with decisions this week, make them from an intellectual, analytical point of view. Do your best to avoid letting emotion cloud your judgment. Instead, puzzle out your solution based on the facts and your personal ethics, make a fair and just decision, then stick with it.
This is a deck I created, with hand-painted images in the style of ancient Minoan art. It's published by REDFeather. Deck info via website link in my bio or at MinoanTarot dot com.
Hail Freya, it's Friday!
Businesses don't close on Pagan holidays, unfortunately. So for today's #FridayPaganPoll I'm wondering what you usually do about work when they land during the middle of the week.
The ancient world is a magical place. From the ziggurats of Sumeria to the temples of Crete and the pyramids of Egypt, the ancients call to us.
Magic never dies, but only slumbers, awaiting discovery by those who would once again revel in its beauty and respect its power.
These spells speak to the many human needs and desires of protection, prosperity, romance, fertility, healing, and divination. Each spell is described in detail, complete with step-by-step instructions as well as background information about the deities involved, encouraging the reader to develop a relationship with these ancient deities who are still very much alive in our world today.
More info on my website (link in bio). Be the magic you want to see in the world!
This post continues my holiday series. In these posts, I don’t get into details about the origin of the Wheel of the Year, or any academic study, because there are already tons of good blogs covering those aspects.
The goal here is to give a glimpse into how I personally celebrate these holidays. I hope to inspire others in their celebrations, and to show the newcomers and the curious what real-world pagan practice looks like.
Of possible interest. Beckett is very much into the social aspect with others, which as a solitary I am most certainly not (even less so after COVID. People, ugh). But YMMV. Still make your rituals.
The Osterbaum is up, happy equinox all!
We've been doing this for a few years now, as a family, and we add a couple new blown-egg ornaments each year to commemorate.
I love the idea of modern mythology. Stories don't have to be ancient to be valid. As long as people keep telling them, and contemplating them, they become myths. So here's me keeping the tradition alive, telling a popular, modern Pagan mythology about the Spring Equinox:
Ostara, Goddess of the Dawn, was walking through the woods on the morning of the equinox. She was giving her blessing to all the growing buds of life beneath the soil, when an injured bird fell from the sky at her feet.
She was not able to heal the poor bird's delicate wing, and she transformed it into a hare so that it would be able to live on the ground. The bird was thankful to survive, and went along on its way.
The hare soon discovered that although it was now a rabbit, it still laid eggs as if it were a bird. Embarrassed, it hid the eggs in the woods where the local children would find them, and they too would receive the blessings of the Goddess.
Blessed #Ostara my friends! May Spring bring you new and renewed growth. May love flower in your life, and may you prosper in all that you desire. So Mote It Be.
As Spring approaches, take a moment to put your hands on the earth, in soil, and remind yourself that from her you came and to her you will one day return. Therefore, you are part of her blessing to the world. #pagan#hellenismos#polytheism#gods#olympus#religion#prayer
Love, lust, and leeks: Siobhan Ball offers us the legends and folklore surrounding the leek, a vegetable that ancient pagan cultures sometimes saw as revolting and sometimes as a symbol of desire, alongside a delicious leek stew that’s perfect for celebrating the Spring equinox.
I've long been skeptical of most self-help books. So I wrote one that's a little different.
I based it on what I, an ordinary mortal with loads of problems and not as much time or energy as I'd like, am capable of. It's realistic. It offers goals to aim for if you want to stretch a little, but mostly it just helps you cope with life the way it already is so you can get more out of it, while folding your spirituality into the process. Because we're spiritual beings as well as physical ones.
You don't have to be Wiccan to use the information in this book. It's aimed at anyone who follows a nature-oriented spiritual path. Find out more on my website (link in bio).
