It’s getting harder and harder not to conclude that humans are an utterly unrepentant parasitic species bent on destroying its host with haste and prejudice. There is no other conclusion possible or plausible at this point in our evolution. Wasn’t always this way, didn’t have to be this way… but regrettably, here we are on the eve of destruction. Can’t say we don’t deserve what we are surely going to get at this juncture, but it makes me sad for my grandchildren and future generations in general. It is they who will pay for this folly.

Earth Slows Down, but Remains Unpredictable

By Graham Jones. Published 25-Apr-2024RSS

Following a recent run of the shortest days ever recorded by atomic clocks, Earth’s rotational speed may be slowing.

"...In July 2022, we talked to astronomer Leonid Zotov as he was preparing a presentation on Earth’s rotation for the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society. At that time, he thought there was a “70 percent chance” that the length of day had reached a minimum.

When we caught up with Dr Zotov this month, in April 2024, he was sticking to his prediction—with a caveat. “I think the Earth will decelerate,” he said. “But the future will show if that’s right.”

We humans imagine that we can get everything under control with technology, colonise Mars one day, and know our planet inside out. Yet large parts of nature are like an alien planet to us: not even scientists really know them. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/15/chile-seamounts-pacific-dozens-new-species-found-underwater-mountain-range-south-america?utm_source=press.coop

Let the lawsuits begin, but for now YAAAAAAAAAY!!!
"The Interior Department announced Wednesday it will cancel the last remaining oil leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and move to restrict drilling on 13 million acres in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska...Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, speaking to reporters Wednesday, said the Arctic refuge is like no other place on Earth and needs to be protected. It supports millions of migratory birds, polar bears and caribou herds sought by local Alaska Native hunters, she said.

“Climate change is the crisis of our lifetime and we cannot ignore the disproportionate impacts being felt in the Arctic,” Haaland said. “We must do everything within our control to meet the highest standards of care to protect this fragile ecosystem.

“With today’s action, no one will have rights to drill for oil in one of the most sensitive landscapes on Earth,” she said."

:

Pt. 2: The Greenhouse effect
Very basically: Greenhouse gases are better at reflecting radiated heat than at reflecting sunlight, which is why more greenhouse gases lead to about the same amount of sunlight hitting the earth's surface, but more of the then radiated heat staying in the earths atmosphere.

Without a greenhouse effect the earths surface temperature would be about −18 °C (−0.4 °F), so the planet would be uninhabitable by humans.

Too much greenhouse gas however increases the earths temperature above a temperature, where its healthy and comfortable to live on earth as humans.

We know the earth is warming, as we established in the previous post.
Let's next find out how we know that this global heating is human made - or rather capitalism made.
